In this article, you'll find some general tips for finding and applying for postal jobs, no matter where you are.

Eligibility Requirements

The eligibility requirements are relatively standard and don't demand much from the potential employee. They're also luckily pretty universal for countries around the world, with only a few differences you'll see listed below.

Firstly, there is always a minimum age requirement for all applicants. That age is generally 18 years or older. There are a few instances where this is different, as well as particular circumstances that permit teenagers age 16 to be allowed to apply and get a postal job.

There is no maximum age restriction, except for a select few managerial or postal inspector positions.

Other than age requirements, there is a minimum fitness requirement, and/or possess a driver's license of some sort. Most places and companies offer an aptitude test or a few, which will clear you of these requirements and deem you fit to work.

You will also have to pass a drug test to prove you have not recently taken any prohibited substances, and this test occurs regularly throughout your career. This is to ensure the safety of both the worker and anyone they may come into contact with during the working day.

Lastly, most companies will have you perform various aptitude tests to test whether or not you have the necessary skills.

Applying for a postal job requires you to be able to remember the routes and addresses, check forms, be punctual and have excellent time management, and have decent people and communication skills. These and more will all be tested pre-employment.

Qualifications

There are a few crossovers between eligibility requirements and qualifications, as different companies state these requirements under these different titles.

The qualifications for a postal job aren't extreme in any capacity. There are no education requirements or the like for most companies.

When it comes to looking for a particular skill set, they will more than likely offer training and aptitude tests to see if you are indeed able to work the position.

Generally, you will need to pass a minimum fitness test, as well as perform various skills tests that prove you have the necessary communication and people skills, as stated above.

Additionally, you will be required to confirm your ability with time management and to be punctual at all times, while maintaining a smart appearance.

Some positions require a valid driver's permit, as you will be delivering mail via a car or motorcycle.

Other qualifications are mainly up to the specific company, but the above-listed requirements cover what you'll generally need.

There are no formal qualifications in most parts of the world for positions like these; all you need is to pass the various aptitude tests to evaluate your prowess.

Experience Needed

Given the minimum age requirements, there is understandably no experience requirements. A person straight out of school can apply should they wish.

Experience is not a necessity for applying for a postal job. Still, it is a nice addition to include when applying. It proves that you have some of the knowledge and skills that are required by the position.

But do not worry if you have no experience, as you don't strictly need it to get the job.
