Exceptional problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work well in teams and collaborate with others.

Software Development

This is perhaps the most qualification intensive position. Software developers need to have a detail-orientated mind, much like a database administrator, but in a problem-solving and creating manner.

The ability to switch between an independent and a team environment is important, as well as the ability to be able to solve problems logically.

Systems Analyst

Similar to the Business Intelligence Analyst, you must possess excellent communication and people skills while also being able to approach problems with an analytical mind and critical thinking.

Web Developer

Web developers must possess the critical thinking and problem-solving skills of a software developer. They also need in-depth knowledge of business strategies and the way that the internet can help and hinder.

These are the general skills and characteristics that employers look for in each of these career paths.

Qualifications

For most of these career paths, you’ll be required to have a bachelor’s degree in computer sciences or similar fields of study.

This is quite understandable and a bit obvious, as going into a technological and computer-based field requires some formal education and training in this field.

For any kind of software development or management, you’ll also need knowledge of common computer languages. These include C#, C++, HTML, etc. Also, SQL is particularly crucial for database-based jobs.

Experience Needed

For most of the career paths listed above, you will need some form of experience. For example, a Business Intelligence Analyst requires a few years of experience with database and data cube technology. This is in addition to their required bachelor’s degree in computer science.

Not every career path requires years of experience. In fact, only the Business Intelligence Analyst, Tier 2 Desk Technician, Systems Analyst, and Web Developer paths require more than a year’s worth of experience.

All other paths require minimal experience to prove that they do indeed have the necessary skills.
