The Correctional RN works in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, correctional officers, and administrators to ensure the well-being of the incarcerated population. The Correctional RN utilizes their knowledge to address the specific challenges and limitations of the correctional environment while providing care to their patient population. This care includes both routine and emergency health care in a correctional facility setting.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient carePerforms focused interview to identify specific patient's needsAssesses signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient's conditionConducts health histories on newly-admitted inmatesWhen necessary, makes referrals of inmates to the staff physician, nurse practitioner, dentist, or mental health professionalDetermines the need for emergency hospital care and ensures that all medication is administered in accordance with standard operating procedures and as ordered by the authorizing authorityCollects, analyzes, and interprets data and information from healthcare members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnosesDocuments the patient's plan of care using identified nursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursing interventionsIdentifies and prioritizes actions based on patient care requirementsMonitors consistency between patient plan of care and actions of medical staffPerforms interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standardInitiates and evaluates patient educationRevises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventionsDocuments patient's response to nursing and other interventionsSupervises, trains and directs other healthcare professionals on site such as LPNs, CNAs, etc.Performs other duties as assigned/necessaryMinimum Requirements:Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which the nurse practicesMinimum of one year of correctional health care experience preferredComplies with all relevant professional standards of practiceParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable to job siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of ageBenefitsAt Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits:Competitive pay & weekly paychecksHealth, dental, vision, and life insurance401(k) savings planAwards and recognition programs*Benefit eligibility is dependent on employment status.About AmergisAmergis, formerly known as Maxim Healthcare Staffing, has served our clients and communities by connecting people to the work that matters since 1988.
