POSITION SUMMARYThe Assistant Operator supports the set up and operation of a press or coater as well as support equipment; Supports preparation of work zone and components before setups and during operation; Supports loading and unloading of components during setup; Obtains cardboard packaging, forms boxes, prints labels, packs finished material into boxes, and seals entire unit when finished. RESPONSIBILITIESCompliance with all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS), standards, regulations, and rulesDirect participation in EHS training, safety observations, and hazard identification Seeks and proactively implements Continuous Improvement (CI) activities through teamwork and CI process participationProactively monitor and document product quality during all phases of operationsIdentifies and loads or unloads raw materials and finished goods (ex: PS Stock, Paper, Boxes, Cores)Builds & labels boxes and pallets, then packs and seals as neededMoves pallets, stacks them, and shrink wraps in preparation for shipmentOperates fan folder, sheeter, bagger, tape machine, turret, or other finishing equipmentDirectly supports the setup of the press/coater and the turret/sheeter/folder or other finishing equipmentPreparation, testing, and application of adhesives, inks, releases, or other chemistry to support operationsMeasure and adjust pH, viscosity, and color of ink, varnish, adhesive, or other chemistry. Mount printing plates and dies onto cylindersAssemble components to be put on prep carts to expedite machine setupSelect, identify, insert, and remove plates, aniloxes or gravure cylinders from presses as well as components from turrets or finishing equipment Properly clean & store aniloxes, gravure cylinders, or printing platesRead and understand job instructions and supporting documentationCover a running machine during breaks or extended gaps during the dayMaintain 6S housekeeping standards of work zones and walkwaysDirectly supports training and cross training of other coworkersSupports inspection and rework of materials as neededContributes to a team effort by proactively assisting coworkersPerforms other duties as assignedQualificationsManufacturing experience preferredHigh School Diploma or GEDMust be able to lift up to 50 lbs.Basic computer and math skillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimalsAbility to read scale within 1/64Ability to enter data legibly and accurately into forms as well as computersAbility to read, write, interpret, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos. Examples include safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and operating manualsAbility to read and understand work orders and ask questionsAbility to communicate effectively with coworkers and all levels of managementAbility to work as a team with others to meet business requirementsAbility to maintain regular and predictable attendancePhysical Requirements and Environmental ConditionsRegular exposure to manufacturing environment with one or more unpleasant hazardous conditions including but not limited to exposure to dust, dirt, high noise levels, chemicals more than 50% of the work time.Ability to lift products up to 50 lbs multiple times per dayAbility to repetitively lift 25 lbs frequentlyAbility to work in a standing position for long periods of timeOther physical demands include climbing, crouching, bending, reaching, stooping, etc.Continuous contact with other people requiring communications via face-to-face, orally by telephone and various written methodologiesAbility to exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or 20lbs of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
