12 MONTH Custodian - Alabama State Department of Education : Job Details

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Regular and punctual attendance required2. Maintain school facilities and grounds3. Sweep, mop, empty trash, clean restrooms, strip, wax, and buff floors, and any other task related to cleanliness4. Conduct maintenance, make repairs as needed to include changing light fixtures and light bulbs5. Coordinate with the Maintenance Department on those items requiring work that is more detailed6. Order and maintain supplies7. Assist with moving furniture and other items within the school facilities8. Be available to respond as required to alarm activations9. Lock and secure school buildings daily as assignedOTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Assume reasonable job-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor in order to meet the needs of the schoolREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:1. Ability to work an eight (8) hour day and overtime as requested2. Ability to follow oral and written instruction3. Ability to work independently with or without supervision4. Skills in the use of tools and equipment pertinent to the assigned tasks5. Knowledge of equipment, materials, tools, and methods to perform work tasks as assigned6. Knowledge of safety rules in the workplace7. Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and perform effectively as a team memberPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, depending on the job assignment2. Walk and stand 85% of work shift3. Stoop, bend, twist, turn, and reach on a regular basis4. Environmental exposures to heat and cold on a regular basis5. Adequate strength, dexterity, and agility to perform all tasks assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:1. High school diploma, GED, or sufficient education and experience to perform the duties of the position2. Some experience with commercial custodial or janitorial work preferred3. Ability to carry out tasks requiring moderate physical exertion and some heavy lifting, working outside in various conditions4. Background clearance through FBI and ABI processes5. Ability to follow oral and written instructions
