Who We Want

The College Ambassador will work at SFUSD focal high schools in collaboration with site staff and Community Based Organization (CBO) partners to support the college-going process and culture, meeting with small groups and individual students in completing college applications. College Ambassadors must be recent high school graduates who graduated within the last 4 years and will be enrolled full-time in a local college or university in Fall 2021.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with CBO advisers to support college and financial aid application workshops.
  • Set up systems to support students' attendance at College Centers and/or events.
  • Join meetings focused on collaboration and problem-solving and develop systems to reach all students.
  • Reach out to students' families to ensure they are included in the college process, including promotion of events like Cash for College Nights and other college-access related events.
  • Support students in meeting deadlines and provide up-to-date and accurate information about the college-going process through classroom push-in support and small group meetings.
  • Spread the word about college-related updates by visiting classes to make announcements and share college tips from your own experiences.
  • Use technology to support outreach, including updating the school's website, designing informative print materials, and creating videos to educate families.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Technology tools and online systems, such as Canvas and Google Suite.
  • Understanding of the college application process.
  • Oral and written communication skills.

Ability to:

  • Support student needs, including individual, small group work and/or whole class support.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively with students and adults both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, families, and others connected to the college-going process.
  • Manage instructions from multiple team members and meet expectations.
  • Work confidentially, with discretion and appropriate boundaries.
  • Manage time effectively and be punctual for job responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Adult, 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be enrolled at least part-time in a local college or university (including but not limited to CCSF, SFSU, and CSU EB).
  • Applicants must pass a background check administered by SFUSD, fingerprinting, and provide negative TB test results.

In addition to your job application, applicants must submit a current class schedule (school-issued transcript/schedule), resume, letter of intention, and 2 references. Must provide negative TB test results.

Compensation Data:
