ELLENSBURG SCHOOL DISTRICT #401 POSITION: Parapro II, Temporary for remainder of 24-25 school yearLOCATION: Ida Nason Aronica Elementary School, 6.5 hrs a dayREPORTS TO: PrincipalJOB SUMMARY: Assisting the classroom teacher in implementing and maintaining a consistent and sequential program for students, providing instruction to individual or small groups, and monitoring and reporting student progress.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Preparing and organizing lessons and materials as directed by the teacher.
  • Administering and scoring assessments according to established guidelines.
  • Providing instruction for individual and small groups as directed by the teacher.
  • Maintaining records of student progress.
  • Participating as member of an instructional team.
  • Monitoring and reporting behavior of students according to approved procedures.
  • Assisting in emergency drills, assemblies and field trips.
  • Participating in meetings and in-service training programs as requested.
  • Assisting students by providing emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance.
  • Assuring the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations.
  • Performing related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • New applicants and current employees out of classification:
AA (or higher) degree or completion of 2 years of secondary education (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits). ETS Test with a score of at least 461
  • Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check.
  • Successfully complete a skills assessment test in the subjects of mathematics, grammar, spelling, language and reading.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Basic subjects taught in the District schools, including mathematics, grammar, spelling, language and reading.
  • Safe practices in classroom activities.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
ABILITY TO:
  • Engage with students to support mathematics, grammar, spelling, language and reading up to the 6th grade level.
  • Learn child guidance principles and practices.
  • Communicate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and staff.
  • Perform routine clerical duties in support of classroom activities.
  • Print and write legibly.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Learn procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Learn to apply and explain policies and procedures related to school and program activities.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Monitor, observe and report student's behavior according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Operate instructional and office equipment.
