Supported platforms range from resource-constrained small UAVs and wearable devices to manned aircraft and maritime vessels.What will you do?Azure Summit Technology is currently seeking an Electrical Component Engineer. The selected candidate will be part of a dynamic, growing, cross-functional, and geographically distributed team. This position is located on-site at our facility in Melbourne, FL, with occasional overnight travel to our office in Fairfax, VA, and/or other locations as needed to support customer activities. Your future team has worked together to produce the following job description:The selected candidate will perform and/or assist in the performance of Parts Engineering, Components Engineering, or Applications engineering tasks supporting programs in the proposal, System Design Description, Low-Rate Initial Production (SDD, LRIP), production, and EOL support phases. This position will require day-to-day interface with designers, product development engineering, Electronic Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) function, program management, and other disciplines.The Components Engineer performs routine and varied work relating to the application and management of component parts used in the design and manufacture of electronic and mechanical systems.Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Determine program component environmental/characteristic application requirements.
  • Provide technology insertion and parts selection/standardization guidance while adhering to business, component parametric, application environmental, and circuit application constraints.
  • Interface with multiple internal stakeholders and external suppliers/manufacturers to develop component risk and verification delineation.
  • Create component verification data packages with supporting data.
  • Facilitate component selection and libraries application through the coordination and generation of the program bill of material (BOM) in a collaboration toolset.
  • Presentation of component standardization, design library, obsolescence management and termination finish risk results in support of program preliminary and critical design reviews (PDR's / CDR's.)
  • Accountable for producing thorough and accurate work of suitable complexity that meets company requirements for schedule, cost, producibility, quality, and reliability.
  • Develop familiarity with company products and develop/ apply component selection, development, qualification, and other parts control processes.
  • Understand performance characteristics and market conditions for components within their commodity of specialization.
  • Create new part numbers within engineering and business system tools and prepare and maintain specifications as required.
  • Liaise with Design Engineering, Quality, Configuration Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain and Customer Support functions as required.
  • Drive Obsolescence/material availability management activities including monitoring, reporting of Obsolescence Risk, responding to End-of-Life Notifications, developing alternate part solutions, and executing Last Time Buy purchases.
  • Provide and maintain all reports, metrics, data and/or other deliverables as required.
  • Any other task assigned by your supervisor or management.
Basic Qualifications
  • US citizenship, due to nature of the work and contract requirement
  • Ability to obtain SECRET clearance, due to contract requirement
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer or Component Engineer in an Avionics or Defense environment, or equivalent electronics design and/or manufacturing experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in any of the following:
    • Experience with Parts Standardization application and technology insertion within the design process
    • Experience with the development of associated component data/drawings and the judgment/determination of part applications to meet program/project objectives and requirements
    • Experience with BOM (Bill of Material) development and management for developmental and production programs
    • Experience in design with integrated circuits, semiconductors, and passives
    • Experience or familiarity with electronics manufacturing processes and test equipment
    • ORCAD or Design Architect and circuit simulation/analysis tools (PSPICE, - Analog Workbench)
    • Data collection and presentation skills to adequately discuss system impact of component obsolescence issues
    • Knowledge of component failure modes by commodity
    • Knowledge component reliability process monitors and/or qualification methodologies
    • Knowledge of Component MIL drawings, standards, test specifications, and associated QPLs and QMLs
    • Knowledge of analog design and analysis, general knowledge of digital circuitry and interfaces
    • Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise in Electronic Component Management procedures and practices; familiarity with microcircuits and other electronic components; familiarity with military and industry standards for electronic components. Working knowledge of electronics design and part reliability is a plus.
