Title: 535 - Ordinance Enforcement Officer IOrganization: Health: Ordinance EnforcementDepartment: Ordinance EnforcementLocation: Health City PlazaRate of Pay: $14.67Job SummaryThe Ordinance Enforcement Officer I is responsible to enforce city ordinances and issue citations for violations of those ordinances. The Ordinance Enforcement Officer I patrols specific areas of the city, issuing citations, receiving and responding to complaints, and maintaining documents related to this work. Position works according to some procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision.CompetenciesEffective CommunicationTime ManagementEthical PracticeCustomer FocusCritical ThinkingProblem SolvingKey Functions/Knowledge/Skills* Knowledge of an extensive body of rules, procedures, or operations; specialized skills that may be technical or non-technical.* Perform a variety of field and office work in support of city's ordinances; enforce compliance with City regulations and ordinances pertaining to public health and safety, and other matters of public concern.* Receive and respond to citizen complaints and reports from agencies and departments on alleged violations of City ordinances; interview complainants and witnesses; conduct investigations and provide recommendations for resolution.* Conduct field investigations; inspect properties for violations; attempt to make contact to resolve violation(s); issue and post notices of violation, notices to comply, and conduct follow-up inspections to meet compliance.* Prepare court cases, by gathering evidence in support of legal actions taken by city; appear in court if necessary; testify in court proceedings as required.* Maintain accurate documentation for any and all cases on all investigations, inspections, enforcement actions, and other job-related activities. Maintain records of violations; take photographs and prepare written reports.* Research, compile, and collect data. Prepare clear and concise technical reports. Make oral presentations and testify in court. Read County Assessors maps and property profiles.* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.* Performs related duties as required.Minimum Education & ExperienceHigh school graduation or GED.1 year of work experience preferred.Special Certifications & LicensesValid Texas Driver's License.Independence & JudgementAverage judgement; must recognize and resolve problems such as bad grammar, type of procedure to apply, where to refer call or correspondence without specified destination; may involve freedom in selection of work methods among approved routines, setting of priorities, or sequencing of tasks within established schedules.Initiative & IngenuityGeneral guidelines: occasionally requires interpretation of available options to apply to non-standard situations; day-to-day work drives.
