Position Type: Athletics/Activities/CoachingDate Posted: 9/9/2024Location: Abington Heights Middle School 7th and 8 Grade Girls Basketball Coach- Salary $2,828 QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program. 2. Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport, 1-2 years experience is preferred. 3. The Assistant Coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport. 4. The Assistant coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions. 5. Bachelor's degree preferred. REPORTS TO: The Head Coach, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the Athletic Director. SUPERVISES: In several instances, the Assistant coach must advise, coordinate and support a staff in conjunction with the Head Coach and Athletic Director. JOB GOAL: To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student-athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, coaching affiliations, etc. GENERAL: 1. The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community's image of the entire system. Public exposure is a considerable responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance is taxing, but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship and good mental health. 2. The position includes other unusual aspects such as extended time, risk injury factors, and due process predicaments. 3. It is the express intent of this job description to give sufficient guidance to the necessary functions of this role. In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that a coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment in conjunction with the Abington Heights Coaches Handbook and guidance from the Administration. 4. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must comply with AH Coaches Handbook and PIAA rules and regulations for coaches.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Abington Heights School District Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program. 2. Has knowledge of existing AHSD, LIAA, District 2, and PIAA regulations; implements regulations within the program and ensures compliance with and interpretation among their staff. 3. Understand the proper administrative chain of command and refer all requests or grievances through the proper channels. 4. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance. 5. Supports the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by direction of the Head Coach. 8. Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation in conjunction with the direction provided by the Head Coach. 9. Performs such other duties which may be assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or Principal. ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: 1. Assists the Head Coach in scheduling, providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events. (i.e. fees, documents, contracts, etc.). 2. Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sports events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees. 3. Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning PIAA physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility. 4. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites. 5. Advises the Head Coach and recommends policy, method, or procedural changes. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student-athletes of the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. 2. Gives constant attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct both athletically and academically. 3. Maintains the safety of the student-athlete by his/her presence at all practices, games, and while traveling provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant. 4. Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant. 5. Supports AHSD's Athletic Training staff policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies. 6. Completes paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to the Athletic Trainer within 24 hours. 7. Supervises and directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians as directed by the Head Coach.. 8. Supports discipline and procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary, and contacts parents when a student becomes ineligible as directed by the Head Coach. 9 . Assists athletes in their college or advanced educational selection. FINANCE AND EQUIPMENT: 1. Participates in the budgeting function with the Head Coach by establishing requirements for the next season. Recommends equipment guidelines as to type, style, color, or technical specifications. Is responsible for operating within budget appropriations. 2. Is accountable for all equipment and maintains obligation lists that include the cost of any equipment lost or not returned. Arranges for issuing, storing, and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records concerning the same to the Head Coach and Athletic Director. 3. Properly marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing. 4. Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' offices, and authorizes who may enter issue or requisition equipment. 5. Advises the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times. 6. Examines the locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on the general cleanliness of the facility. Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment. 7. Secures all doors, lights, windows, locks, and alarms before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty. 8. Instills in each player respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use. PUBLIC RELATIONS: 1. By direction of the Head Coach, organizes parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings. 2. Promotes the sport within the school by recruiting athletes who are not in another sports program and promotes the sport outside the school through news media, community programs, or in any other feasible manner. 3. Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans. 4. Presents information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments, and results as directed by the Head Coach. 5. Supports the team Social Media Accounts under the direction of the Head Coach. Performs other duties as assigned. Performs in accordance with school policy, administrative regulations, state and federal laws.
