Academic Advising Director - Center for Academic Advising and Student Success**POSITION DETAILS**Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty-five colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education. Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.The Director of the Center for Academic Advising & Student Success provides conceptual, budgetary, supervisory, and strategic leadership for all advising and academic related activities. The Director reports to the Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.Typical responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:- Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates a staff of full-time and part-time professional advisors and other support staff.- Develops and oversees transition programs for various student cohorts (e.g. transfer, international, undeclared students, probation, etc.).- Develops a comprehensive assessment plan that will include the implementation of appropriate assessment tools to identify and address student needs.- Facilitates in the culling and distribution of data required for reporting by the State, City, University and College.- Analyze reports and makes recommendations to the Associate Provost as necessary.- Manages program budgets and adjusts spending plans and allocations as appropriate.- Works closely with the Academic Center for Excellence in Student Support (ACESS) to foster student success.- Develops reporting systems for the compilation of data.- Works on joint initiatives with the Dean of Enrollment Management.- Chairs college-wide meetings related to program activities.- Participates in task forces and councils as assigned by the Associate Provost to improve performance of pre-freshman and first year targets.- Conducts formal observations and performance appraisals in accordance with collective bargaining agreement and provides staff with professional development opportunities.- Works collaboratively with others to improve the functionality of CUNYFirst/Campus Solution module.**QUALIFICATIONS**Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.OTHER QUALIFICATIONS- Advanced degree in higher education, counseling, or a related field preferred- Demonstrated experience in a leadership/supervisory position- Higher education experience in an urban setting- Exceptional oral and written communication, organizational, and analytical skills- Experience providing training to academic advisors- Demonstrated knowledge of programs/services which promote student persistence- Superb interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as a team member- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint) and student information management systems, such as GRADES FIRST, CUNYfirst/Campus Solutions, Degree Works, and Early Alert on-line system- Ability to work extended hours (flexible evenings and weekends when needed) during peak operation periods as defined by supervisors.The ideal candidate must have demonstrated satisfactory qualities of personality and character and ability to work with others for the good of the institution.
