Posting DetailsPosition Information Job Title Academic Advisor Department Student Services, College of Nursing - 35600 Pay Grade 7 Job Category Administrative Job Summary The ETSU College of Nursing, Department of Student Services is currently seeking to fill a full-time permanent Academic Advisor position.The Advisor reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Services and is responsible for the professional advisement of Health Professions/Nursing Interest (HPNU)) students enrolled at ETSU and for meeting with prospective nursing students as needed.This position ensures that all undergraduate Health Professions/Nursing Interest (HPNU) students receive accurate and timely information regarding courses, admission requirements, and ETSU policies. The role involves diverse activities requiring analysis, judgment, and alignment with broad principles, practices, and professional standards. Work is guided by objectives and expected outcomes with limited supervision, with complex or new issues referred to a higher level. The Advisor analyzes student situations to identify areas of concern, referring students to appropriate resources for issues beyond their expertise, while ensuring compliance with applicable policies and procedures.   • Knowledge of undergraduate advising practices, student development theory, goal setting and achievement, and experience with related technology.
  • Knowledge of counseling and advising techniques.
  • Knowledge of University Policy and Procedures and functions.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to possess high level of organizational and coordination skills.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and a professional image while providing leadership under stressful conditions, deadlines, and constant changing schedules.
  • Ability to exercise high level of confidentiality and independent initiative and judgement.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three (3) years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or healthcare related field.
