Positions are typically research or supervision related and require an advanced skill set.Essential Duties and Responsibilities Duties and responsibilities involve the oversight of a building, area, or special project or research with the intent of publishing in a journal or presenting at a professional event. The Specialized Student Assistant may conduct analyses of research, write and edit reports, or perform a variety of supervisory functions (interviewing, recommending employment and removal, training, scheduling, overseeing work product, and approving timesheets). This position will require a high level of contact with internal and external customers. A substantial level of team work is expected. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.Other Duties and Responsibilities Helps with classes meeting in the LRC by setting up table display for genres, teacher units, and help with students and faculty.Works at the LRC Help Desk to assist users with the Library's online catalog to search for and assist patrons with locating needed LRC materials.Delivers books for Library's delivery service for faculty and staff.Transfers, interfiles, and shelves LRC materials (DVDs, audio-CDs, books, teach-aids, and more).Inserts color strips to learn the Dewey Decimal System when shelving all materials (while in training).Browses items in discharge mode on the computer to record in house-library usage. Reads shelves to make sure items are in correct LRC location and call number order.Gives informational direction to other areas of the library.Assists patrons with copiers and Eagle card machine.Assists patrons with handicapped doorsRuns errands to other departments across campus.Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.Minimum Requirements Must be a current MSU studentMust maintain satisfactory academic progressMust have or be able to successfully complete a significant amount training/certification, such as research ethics and compliance training, CPR/First Aid, etc.Must have a high level of knowledge of the operations and policies of the unit or departmentFor positions that supervise, must have the ability to lead and direct othersMust possess independent judgment, discretion and decision-making skillsMust have a proven track record of meeting deadlines and working under pressureMust be able to handle stress as well as to react quickly in emergency situationsAdditional Desirable QualificationsPhysical Requirements Work requires mobility and moderate lifting of items such as books, boxes, or computer equipment.Working Conditions The Access Services Learning Resource Center student worker works in a designated unit that requires flexibility in scheduling and a willingness to adapt work schedule around class schedule to meet unit needs. Also requires regularly scheduled evening and/or weekend hours. The student worker must be able to interact positively and professionally with all work contacts. Requires frequent use of computer monitors and other technology. Pressures may develop due to workload, and/or interactions with public. Weather exposure is the typical building environment.
