Job SummaryThe Accessibility Service Assistant is responsible for a variety technical and administrative duties and responsibilities in support of the Accessibility Services. Assignments may include IT and technical and equipment support, compiling and analyzing data, coordinating multiple concurrent activities, and interacting with individuals and groups at most levels in the organization. Assists in the everyday operation, special projects and time-sensitive duties of the assigned office. Performs a variety of support duties which requires a range of skills and knowledge of local, state, federal and organizational policies and procedures within a confidential environment.Essential Functions
  • Perform disability student intakes:
    • Evaluation and verification of medical documentation
    • Creation of Academic Adjustment Agreement
    • Coordination with student, instructors, program directors, departments and outside entities to provide academic adjustments and/or provide auxiliary aids.
  • Maintains knowledge of accessibility laws, policies, procedures and practices
  • Assist IT and Media by pe1forming time-sensitive, technical duties required for timely accommodations and ADA compliance
  • Assists in the coordination of providing alternative text such as e-books and large-print
  • Provides trained reader and scribe services as needed
  • Organizes and maintains the Accessibility Center's electronic filing system; ensures accuracy and completeness of confidential files and records; files and retrieves documents, creates statistical reports
  • Knowledge of equipment, software and services needed for accommodations (i.e., CART, remote sign-language interpreters, remote note-taking, etc.)
  • Assists with set-up of auxiliary aid equipment in classrooms and assists students and faculty with technology needed for accommodations in internet courses.
  • Assists in training students, staff, and faculty on the use of auxiliary aids, software, services, technology and accessibility aps
  • Assist in locating resources, acquiring bids, etc. for technological auxiliary aids, software, services and aps.
  • Performs administrative duties required by the Supervisor to support routine and special projects
  • Assists with processing in-coming and out-going mail, including email
  • Plans daily and prioritizes to accomplish the assigned tasks along with routine jobs to meet established deadlines
  • Creates and maintains course master database and semester schedules in the computer system
  • Assists the Counseling/Advising front office when needed
  • Greets and assists students, staff and community in person and by telephone, in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner
  • Exercises professionalism in use of correct grammar, work attendance habits and attire;
  • Maintains confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other employees
  • Regular and predictable on-site attendance is required
  • Maybe required to attend overnight training conferences
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Skills and Ability
  • Master's degree with emphasis in Counseling, Career Counseling, Psychology, Student Personnel, Social Work or equivalent;
  • LPC, NCC, or equivalent licensure/certification;
  • Five-year experience in a high school and/or community college setting working with student academic preparedness, admissions, student advisement, student support services;
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with prospective students, college and high school faculty, staff and the public and commitment to a team building approach;
  • Ability to work effectively within an ethnic, cultural and socially diverse student population;
  • Experience in budget development and management;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and the general public in a courteous manner;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the use of integrated software systems and Microsoft
  • Office applications;
  • Demonstrated skills in establish and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and the public;
  • Demonstrated skills in facilitating and modeling a quality customer service orientation;
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to think outside the box and to lead and manage change, as well as the recruiting and admissions processes of the College
Preferred
  • Some knowledge of ADA law as it relates to higher education.
  • A general knowledge of College operations and procedures coupled with a strong working knowledge of computer skills to include any new software that the College acquires.
Work Environment
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Sedentary, sitting, walking, occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending, frequent near vision use for reading and computer use; frequent stressful and time-limited conditions (cardiovascular).
