Position Summary

San Diego State University's Student Disability Services (SDS) is seeking an Accessible Technology Assistant Coordinator to support students with disabilities by providing essential accommodations and services. Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support & Accommodations: Serve as the primary point of contact for students authorized for alternative media accommodations.
  • Alternative Media Intake & Management: Conduct alternative media intakes, assess accommodation needs, and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Course Material Accessibility: Manage alternative media requests, ensuring timely access to accessible course materials.
  • Faculty & Staff Collaboration: Act as a resource for students, faculty, and staff regarding alternative media and accessibility best practices.
  • Relationship Building: Maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and the public while coordinating accommodations.
  • Team Coordination: Collaborate with SDS Accommodations Counselors and administrative staff to support student needs.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2025, with the possibility of reappointment.
  • This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Key Qualifications

  • Demonstrates competency using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with electronic text conversion tools and alternative media production processes.
  • Proficiency with assistive/accessible technology software and hardware, such as screen readers, alternative input devices, and speech recognition software.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in maintaining documentation and tracking systems.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with students and faculty.
  • Understanding of or ability to rapidly acquire an understanding of basic processes in alternative media production.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities and a strong understanding of accessibility principles and best practices are preferred.
  • Certification in accessibility standards or assistive technology training is preferred.
  • Master's degree in field related to job responsibilities preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,083 per month.

San Diego State University offers a rich benefits package that constitutes a major portion of total compensation.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 per month.
