Manhattan Charter Schools is seeking an accountant who will play a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of our school. MCS is a publicly funded, independently operated school.
MCS will prepare its students to achieve high academic levels in the four core academic subject areas and music, to communicate effectively in verbal, mathematical and musical languages, and to apply critical thinking processes and ethical standards to learning, living and problem solving.
Financial Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for MCS. This includes recording all financial transactions, such as income, expenses, and payroll.
Budgeting: Collaborate with district and school administration to develop an annual budget for the school. Monitor budgetary performance and make adjustments as necessary.
Financial Reporting: Prepare financial reports, such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to provide a clear picture of the school's financial health to the school board, administrators, and relevant stakeholders.
Audit Preparation: Coordinate and prepare all financial documents and records for annual audits or reviews by external auditors. Ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements.
Accounts Payable and Receivable: Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Ensure that bills are paid on time and that the school is collecting payments owed to it.
Payroll Processing: Manage the school's payroll system in collaboration with the DTO, including calculating and distributing employee salaries and benefits, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and employment laws.
Grant Management: manage grant funding, including grant applications, compliance, and reporting to grantors. Ensure that the school is using grant funds in accordance with the grant's terms and conditions in collaboration with DTO
Financial Compliance: Ensure the school adheres to all financial regulations, including state and federal laws governing charter schools. Stay up-to-date with changes in financial regulations and reporting requirements.
Financial Planning: Assist in financial planning for the school, helping to identify areas where cost savings or revenue increases can be achieved.
Vendor Management: Negotiate contracts in collaboration with DTO with vendors and suppliers, review invoices, and ensure that the school receives the best value for services and products.
Financial Policies and Procedures: Maintain and update financial policies and procedures to promote transparency, accountability, and internal controls within the school's financial operations.
Financial Software: Utilize accounting software and tools to manage financial data efficiently. Stay updated on the latest accounting and financial software systems.
Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, cost drivers, and areas for improvement in the school's financial performance.
Communication: Collaborate with district leadership, board members, and other stakeholders to provide financial insights and answer questions regarding the school's financial health.
Training: Provide training and guidance to staff members on financial policies, procedures, and best practices.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field,
* Relevant experience in accounting, finance, or a similar role.
* Professional certifications like Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
* Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.
* Additionally, familiarity with education finance and charter school regulations preferred

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
