About this Position Montana Housing strengthens our vibrant communities by supporting access to safe, affordable and sustainable homes for Montanans whose housing needs are not met by the market. Montana Housing assists with buying a home, down payment assistance, mortgage servicing, Reverse Annuity Mortgages, rental housing assistance and multifamily rental development.The Investment Accountant for the Montana Board of Housing (MBOH) is responsible for proper accounting and reconciling of all investment activity including purchases, sales, transfers and interest payments between multiple systems. Developing and maintaining financial reports to properly account for and report on the MBOH's investments. Administering MBOH accounts payable and accounts receivable and related accounting activities utilizing the statewide accounting system (SABHRS) and Perceptive. This position performs a variety of accounting and program administration work in support of MBOH accounting activities by either the Assistant Accounting and Finance Manager or the Accounting and Finance Manager. This includes spreadsheet design and maintenance, accounting research and reconciliation, providing backup for other MBOH staff in mortgage and foreclosure accounting, as well as attending continuing education and training. This position is open until filled; with a first review date of December 13th, 2024.What are we looking for?Education and Experience: •An Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or another related area•2 years of related, relevant experience•Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.Competencies: Knowledge of:•Account reconciliation methods and techniques•Processing account payables and receivables•Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)•Excel or other spreadsheet system, including maintenance and design•Knowledge of SABHRS accounting system•Investment accounting principles and practices•Automated accounting software and database management•Creating and posting journal entries into the general ledgerAbility to:•Process monthly transactions such as purchases, sales, transfers and interest payments using internal accounting software•Keep information in internal accounting system up to date •Reconcile accounting transactions between multiple systems•Communicate with a broad range of individuals effectively both orally and in writing•Be detail-oriented and methodical•Organize multiple, competing projects and maintain timelines and deadlines•Review and verify transactions prepared by coworkers to ensure accuracy of fund transfers. •Identify and resolve errors and discrepancies.•Coordinate the deposit of checks received by MBOH and prepare the deposit, coding with appropriate SABHRS or trustee account.
