Title: Accountant Employment Type: Benefited 40 hour Salary: $26.44/hour-$31.25/hour Key Responsibilities:
Financial Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software and spreadsheets. Record all financial transactions, including revenue, expenses, and accounts payable/receivable. Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts on a monthly basis. Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Assist with the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, and monitor budget-to-actual variances. Generate customized financial reports for internal stakeholders, board members, and external funders. Grant Accounting: Track grant income and expenditures, and maintain detailed records of grant-funded activities. Prepare grant budgets and financial reports for submission to funders, ensuring compliance with grant requirements. Assist with grant proposal development by providing financial data and budget narratives. Audit and Compliance: Support the annual audit process by providing documentation, schedules, and reconciliations as requested by auditors. Ensure compliance with IRS regulations for tax-exempt organizations and other regulatory requirements. Stay informed about changes in accounting standards and regulations affecting nonprofit organizations. Financial Analysis and Planning: Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities for cost savings, and areas for improvement. Assist with financial planning processes, including the development of multi-year financial projections and cash flow forecasts. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making by senior management and the board of directors. Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and practices, including fund accounting and restricted fund management.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct) and Microsoft Excel.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the nonprofit sector, with a desire to contribute to positive social impact. Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP) designation.
- Experience with grant management software (e.g., Foundant, Fluxx) and donor relationship management systems (e.g., Salesforce).
- Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices, including donor cultivation and stewardship strategies.
