JOB SUMMARYPerforms a variety of general accounting/bookkeeping functions such as preparing journal entries, balancing accounts, posting financial data, reconciling reports, researching financial discrepancies, correcting errors, maintaining financial records, and other accounting functions. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and cash management duties
- Manage all bank accounts and credit card machines
- Update capital assets monthly and research discrepancies with capital assets
- Assist with monthly reconciling of accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Prepare, report and process all lease and debt payments
- Complete all annual filings required
- Complete monthly posting of expenses
- Prepares supporting schedules, gathers information, and provides documents for external auditors
- Assists with annual Insurance renewal
- Reconciliation of accounts receivable
- Assist with budget as needed
- Creates ad-hoc reports as needed
- Provides back-up for senior accounting specialist and controller
- Performs other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field with two (2) years of work experience (preferably in local government); or an equivalent combination of experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, particularly related to governmental accounting standards and regulations
- Knowledge of government regulations, policies, and procedures related to financial management and accounting
- Knowledge of computerized accounting systems and financial software, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software programs
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret financial data and develop reports and recommendations based on that data
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all financial reporting
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically to identify solutions to complex financial issues
- Strong ethical standards and the ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments and external stakeholders, including auditors, vendors, and other government entities
