Accounting and Reporting ManagerPOSITION DETAILSThe Graduate Center is the focal point for advanced teaching and research at The City University of New York (CUNY), the nation's largest urban public university. The Graduate Center's commitment to research and scholarship for the public good is exemplified by its more than 30 centers, institutes, and initiatives.The Accounting and Reporting Manager is responsible for performing highly specialized accounting work required to maintain the GC and all Related Entities general ledgers. Working under the direction of the Controller, the Accounting and Reporting Manager directs and coordinates daily accounting activities to record the revenues, expenditures, assets, and liabilities of GC and all Related Entities quickly and accurately. The incumbent is also responsible for preparing annual financial statements and coordinating GC Tax Levy and Non-Tax Levy annual audits.This position requires the incumbent to work in the office four days a week and one day remotely. This hybrid work schedule is subject to change.Duties include but are not limited to: Serves as a liaison to the CUNY Central Office for CUNYfirst software upgrades.Supervises Financial Reporting Analyst (HEa), responsible for Graduate Center all-funds detail level financial reporting.Leads Financial Reporting activities, ensuring timely development, maintenance, and distribution of all Financial Reporting for the Graduate Center.Supervises, directs, and reviews the accounting functions including cash reconciliations, investment account reconciliation, accounts receivable transactions, and expenses.Oversees all billing, accounts receivable, and revenue accounting for both tax levy and non-tax levy activities.Oversees accounting for Food Services, Pouring Rights, Vending machines, and other Auxiliary activities.Oversees accounting for any new endeavors of the GC as directed by the Controller.Oversees all accounting for the Adult Continuing Education (ACE) Program.Works closely with the Controller to improve internal controls and financial policies.Provides complex financial analysis and technical assistance to the Controller.Communicates with fund managers regarding procedural changes; provides training and solicits advice on better practices.Develops relationships with key managers by providing guidance for financial reporting.Resolves complex accounting issues and prepares routine journal entries and bank reconciliations.Manages and tracks the performance of invested assets.Prepares semi-annual and annual financial statements; liaises with external auditors.Ensures proper execution of releases from restricted funds.Maintains charge-back database and prepares charge-back invoices.Performs ongoing financial analysis, modeling, and reporting.Plays a significant role in the annual audit; serves as a liaison with auditors.Issues payments to vendors, students, and employees.Analyzes revenues and expenses to ensure proper recording in accordance with GAAP.Assists with analyzing financial statements and preparing tax returns.Supervises staff and mentors support staff on GAAP and audit procedures.Ensures compliance with Federal, State, City, and CUNY policies.Coordinates all year-end reporting to the University Budget Office.Reviews and/or creates leases in the Lease Administration Module.Reviews and approves Subscription-Based IT Arrangements (SBITA).Assists with special projects as assigned by the Controller.Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.Preferred Qualifications: Experience in fund accounting, particularly non-profit experience.Strong understanding of accounting theory and GAAP.Ability to create financial reports and business correspondence.Highly motivated self-starter with supervisory experience.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Office and accounting software.Ability to handle multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.Dedicated to providing excellent customer service. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS$67,784 - $86,645. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
