Job Title: Accounting Manager Private School System

The Mount Academy is a four-year high school for grades 9 - 12 founded by the Bruderhof, a Christian community movement, whose students benefit from a challenging academic program, competitive athletics, music and the arts, vocational training, and a tradition of service and environmental stewardship. The Mount Academy has experienced growth in students and curriculum and seeks to deliver a world class educational experience securely grounded in faith-based principles. The Mount Academy is operated by Church Communities Foundation which also runs a daycare and K-8 private schools and educational institutions. Church Communities Foundation is seeking an Accounting Manager Private School System to support the continued expansion of the Bruderhof's educational mission.
Role and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Principal or designee, and working on-site at the Mount Academy in Esopus, the Accounting Manager Private School System has overall responsibility for executing and managing financial transactions and accounting records and reports for The Mount Academy school as well as daycares and K-8 private schools and educational institutions that require accounting support.
The Accounting Manager Private School System is responsible for performing all activities and tasks in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, company policy & procedure, and to support compliance with all tax and regulatory rules and requirements in consideration of the mission-driven aspect of the educational institutions while maintaining positive partnerships with all school-related personnel. The Accounting Manager will function as an active member of a collaborative team charged with developing and implementing segregated accounting and decision-making structures to support the effective governance and management of the Mount Academy and other PK-12 programs as requested.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Performing all accounts payable functions.
Coordinating the exchange of information and accounting for payroll processed by a third party.
Performing all accounts receivable functions, including managing tuition billing and revenue recognition.
Creating and entering period-end general journal entries, and production of period-end financial statements.
Performing period-end account reconciliations and roll-forwards.
Creating budget-to-actual variance reporting and performing variance analysis.
Establishing processes and procedures to record gifts and other donations.
Establishing processes and procedures to record program revenue, including from periodic fundraisers.
Creation of standard and ad-hoc management reports.
Assisting in other accounting and budgeting activities as directed.
Working with Bruderhof leadership, school management and faculty, and staff of associated entities as required to develop financial and strategic plans and execute on same.
Performing all tasks and activities to the highest ethical standards, immediately reporting to management or ownership any actual or suspected irregularities.
Maintaining strict confidentiality in handling sensitive financial and personal data, including personally identifiable information (PII).
Qualifications
Minimum
Vocational calling and career interest in K-12 education with willingness to conduct market research, investigate other schools, and participate in business planning exercises.
Commitment to abiding by and advancing the values, vision, and worldview of the Bruderhof community.
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, advanced degree a plus.
7-10 years' of progressively responsible experience in school system accounting.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with all constituents in a school environment including faculty, staff, administration, parents and students.
Detail-oriented and able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently without direct daily supervision, and be self-motivated to complete work, solve problems, and approach matters from a proactive perspective.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all school and personnel matters.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP / accounting systems.
Hands-on experience with financial and statistical software, preferably NetSuite and Coupa
Willingness to gain experience in and perform research on non-profit accounting issues and emerging trends.
Expertise in MS Excel (creating spreadsheets and using advanced formulas).
Up to date with non-profit accounting laws and regulations, and a willingness to gain experience in and perform research on non-profit accounting issues and emerging trends.
Ability to present financial data using detailed reports and charts.
Experience with nonprofit grant writing and government educational benefit/subsidy programs a plus.
