The Bowery Mission is a Christian, faith-based organization committed since the 1870s to serving people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty. The Bowery Mission meets essential needs and creates transformative communities with men, women, children, and families in New York so that we can together overcome homelessness and poverty and flourish. The Finance Department serves all divisions in meeting external reporting requirements. As a key member of the Finance Department, the Accounting Manager is responsible for supporting the financial operations, including accounting, auditing, and administration, of The Bowery Mission through managing Accounts Payables, Accounts Receivables, Payroll and month-end close. The Accounting Manager is a key part of the daily Finance Department operations. The Accounting Manager will be a hands-on individual with five years of increasing not-for-profit experience in a complex operating environment with at least $20 million in annual revenues and expenses. Strong GAAP theoretical and practical knowledge and ability to prepare both internal management reports (monthly) and account analysis (monthly). This individual will manage Treasury operations (bank recs, cash receipts), financial accounting (monthly close and financial statement analysis and reporting) and provide support to grant writing. The Accounting Manager will be a part of the team for the annual audit and the Form 990 compilation. This position is hybrid, full time employees work full time hours of 40 hours per week with the Manager spending 2-3 days per week onsite. On-site work is located mainly at our headquarters office in Tribeca, NYC office with occasional visits to other locations. Work schedule is Monday - Friday 9 am - 5:30 pm. Reports to: Director of Accounting Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll: Mange oversight of the bi-monthly payroll processing and annual filing of W-2's
  • Accounts Payable: Manage Accounts Payable process
  • Accounts Receivable: Mange sync with Salesforce and Development team
Requirements:
  • Embraces the organization's Statement of Faith
  • At least 5 years of professional accounting experience; at least 2 years in a senior role.
  • Bachelor's degree (either Bachelor's or Master's degree must be a major in accounting)
  • Strong computer skills, MS Excel in particular (managing spreadsheets, creating charts and using advanced formulas) and MS Office tools. Sophisticated knowledge of general ledger, accounts receivable and payable processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of nonprofit accounting financial management, accounting principles, laws and regulations.
Preferred:
  • MBA/Masters preferred
  • CPA helpful but not required
  • Experience using Sage Intacct, Financial Edge, Asset Edge, Bill.com, Bamboo HR, Salesforce, Expense Path and Microsoft Office
