SUMMARY

The Accounting Senior Manager is responsible for financial functions of First Interstate BancSystem, Inc. and its subsidiaries. These functions include financial activities of the company, including accounting, internal reporting, mergers and acquisitions and income taxes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provides leadership and oversight for the accounting and accounts payable department.

* Promotes an understanding of the company, its goals, and how each department contributes.

* Leads and supervises a corporate accounting team by effectively managing monthly processes for assigned areas including preparation of internal and external financial reporting packages.

* Analyzes and reviews financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with Internal Controls and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

* Reviews general ledger entries and account reconciliations; leads these programs to ensure work is completed accurately, timely, and completely.

* Gathers and provides support for external and internal audits and make recommendations to accounting procedures.

* Manages an accurate and timely month-end close process including the close calendar, close checklist, and develop/maintain policies, processes, and procedures to ensure an efficient and reliable close process.

* Prepares key monthly variance account reviews including key indicators and statistics.

* Assists in the preparation and review of year-end audited financial statements and specific disclosures for areas of assignment.

* Provides on-going review of accounting procedures, systems, and processes to ensure efficiency and implementation of best practices.

* Identifies opportunities for automation and improved financial reporting.

* Prepares ad hoc reports, financial analyses, and participate in special projects.

* Collaborates with the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team with variance and trend analysis.

* Partners across the organization to resolve complex issues.

* Keeps abreast of industry changes and regulatory requirements and oversee and/or assist with examinations conducted by auditors and regulatory agencies.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

* Hires, supervises, evaluates, mentors, and develops accounting staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

* Ability to organize and prioritize workload.

* Demonstrate skill in use of microcomputer, financial software and spreadsheets.

* Proficiency of utilizing Word and Excel.

* Possess required technical skills in area of accounting.

* Strive to improve efficiencies and quality.

* Sharp analytical and critical thinking skills with a process improvement mindset.

* Strong attention to detail.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

* Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field

* 10+ years accounting, finance, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required

* 4-6 years management experience

* Knowledge of Oracle preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

* Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
