This critical position provides high-quality financial information for a diverse group of managers, community boards, and elected officials in support of the mission and objectives of Health & Community Services . The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively prioritize to handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Key duties include:
  • Overseeing financial operations in a multi-fund environment.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the department budget and monitoring expenditures.
  • Providing monthly reporting
  • Assisting managers and supervisors with monitoring of budget to actual expenditures.
  • Monitoring and assuring compliance with grants and contracts.
  • Preparing year end reporting to funding sources including State of Washington BARS
  • Coordinating with the Finance Department on the annual audit
  • Supervising a team of five accounting staff

Hiring rate depends on qualifications. This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any approved Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or public administration or a related field;
  • 4 years of progressively responsible related accounting experience;
  • 2 years supervisory experience;
  • Completion of the course work requirement for a CPA is desirable, including 36 quarter hours of course credit in each of the following: (1) accounting and (2) business.
  • Experience in public health or human services and with an integrated financial management system is desirable.
  • Proven experience working with complex Excel functions including but not limited to pivot tables and lookups; and analyzing and interpreting financial data to provide actionable recommendations required.
  • Experience in public health or human services, local government and an integrated financial management system is desirable.
  • Experience in coordinating payroll processing is desirable.
  • Experience in negotiating or administering government contracts or contract compliance administration is desirable.
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma principles is desirable.
