I. Position Purpose
The Accounts Receivable Specialist & Accountant is a key member of the fiscal department. The primary responsibility of the position is the collection and reporting of moneys owed to the college in accordance to its policies and procedures. The position will also be responsible for various accounting functions within the fiscal department as assigned by the supervisor. This position will be a part of implementing new processes to support the College's growth and mission.
II. Duties and Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include the following, to be assigned by supervisor:
o Ensure the timely billing and collection of student account balances, including:
Contacting students regarding their account balances
Providing reports to appropriate staff regarding status of student account balances
Being primarily responsible for ensuring that students follow through on payment plans
Providing insights and recommendations to management regarding the collection of student accounts
o Ensure the timely billing and collection of the colleges accounts receivable
Invoicing on behalf of the college's various revenue centers
Providing reports regarding the aging and receipt of invoices
o Provide support with third party billing
o Act as the liaison for the student account appeals process
o Provide support in posting journal entries
o Provide support to the fiscal departments reporting processes
o Provide support to payroll function
o General bookkeeping as required by the department
o Operating within college's policies and procedures
o Recommending improvements to the College's processes and procedures and work with manager to implement improvements.
o Provide additional support to the fiscal office as needed, including: accounts payable, purchasing, budgeting, and reporting.
o Provide confidential information for bargaining unit contract negotations
o Other duties as assigned
III. Qualifications - Education, Experience, and Skills
Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
1 to 3 years of accounts receivable experience preferred
Accurate and thorough in completing tasks
Attention to detail
Effective written and verbal communication skills
High level of integrity
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Knowledge of general accounting principles
Proficient in technology related to the field
