GENERAL PURPOSE/JOB SUMMARY:JOB SUMMARY:Under the direction and supervision of the Facility Manager and Asst. Facility Managers, the Ackerman SFC Fitness Center Custodian is responsible for providing quality customer service by ensuring the safety of members and guests through maintenance and thorough cleaning of the Ackerman SFC Fitness Center and surrounding areas. Duties include but are not limited to reporting issues to management, washing/drying/folding towels, maintaining clean and tidy exercise equipment, cleaning floors, doors, and windows, disinfecting high touch points, picking up and removal of trash and recycling, and general fitness areas. Additional responsibilities include cleaning of the hallways, bathrooms, and other areas of the Fitness Center including the Cycle Studio and Fitness Studio. Must be team oriented and willing to cross-train in order to attain skills necessary for the job. This is an at-will position.Hours: Weekday shifts between the hours of 4am-8am, 12pm-5pm, and 5pm-10pm. Weekend shifts between 7am-1pm and 1pm-7pm.REQUIRED EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:* The ideal candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, and have a strong sense of customer service and safety.* Indicate any previous experience that is required or preferred. (some examples below)* Effective communication and customer service skills with ability to interact well with staff and the public both verbally and in writing, with tact and diplomacy.* Accuracy and the ability to follow through on detailed work.* Effective organizational skills, time management, and the ability to shift tasks are essential.* Previous experience in a fitness environment is highly desired, with prior customer service experience also helpful.* Previous experience in custodial work and knowledge of mixing cleaning solutions is preferred.* Ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.* Ability to read, understand, and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.* Able to effectively communicate with supervisors and other staff as well as the public and provide quality customer service.* Possess good problem-solving skills and have the capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergency situations.* Possess good safety awareness and utilize sound judgment in all aspects of this position.* Able to work independently and as part of a team is essential.* Available to work a flexible schedule that may include some weekends and holidays if needed.* Capacity to project a professional appearance and maintain confidential information.* CPR/AED/First Aid certified or capacity to receive within 3 months of hire. Mandated Reporter, Food Handler, Lifeguard, Group Fitness or Personal Training, etc.* A valid IL Driver's License is required or preferred with reliable transportation to and from work. Only require if needed to perform their job duties effectively.* Must be in good physical condition to perform manual labor, stand and walk for extended periods of time and have manual dexterity and sufficient strength to lift and/or move 25 pounds or more on a regular basis.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:* Gain knowledge and understanding of Park District policies and procedures and see that they are always adhered to.* Attendance at the worksite is required.* Greet and assist guests/participants and promote a welcoming and customer friendly atmosphere to internal and external customers.* Become familiar with the Glen Ellyn Park District facilities, parks, and programs. Direct patrons to specific Community Center locations, program rooms, or parks as needed.* Take initiative, accept assignments willingly, share ideas, make suggestions for new program ideas, and communicate customer feedback with supervisor.* Maintain excellent inter-departmental communication within the Park District through verbal and written means.* Responsible for coming to work in clean, presentable clothes while wearing a nametag and/or uniform to be clearly identified as a park district employee.* Observe and follow all Park District safety policies and regulations and report hazardous situations. Staff members are continuously responsible for patron and staff safety.* Report all accidents, injuries, unsafe actions, practices, or conditions to supervisor and/or Risk Manager. Provide assistance in addressing and/or correcting issues.* Assist with keeping the facility safe and clean and report any maintenance or security concerns to appropriate personnel and notify supervisor.* Strive for continuous improvement of systems and* Perform other duties as assigned by facility management staff.SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:* Attend and participate in various department and/or District staff meetings, trainings, committees, and/or special events.* Ensure facilities are set up and maintained.* Assist with building emergencies and evacuations as needed and directed.* The Park District encourages its employees to take pride and ownership of the District and serve as an ambassador of the District. As such, it shall be the responsibility of all Park District employees to pick up litter throughout the buildings, grounds, and facilities and report potential hazards.REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, ETC.:If applicable: Must have and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license with acceptable driving record.CPR/AED/First Aid certification or obtain within ninety (90) days of employment. Attention to detail for accurate data entry is essential.* Good general math skills to make change during cash handling, perform calculations, and balance deposits as needed.* Use good safety awareness, judgment, and follow policies; report potentially unsafe conditions; follow manufacturer safety instructions; and follow district ergonomic policies.* Possess knowledge of general office machines (calculator, copier, fax, typewriter, postage meter, etc.)* Must be punctual and dependable with consistent attendance and notify supervisor of any absence or if running late.* Ability to read, write, follow directions, understand, and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.* Ensure policies and procedures are followed.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:* Prolonged periods of standing, walking, moving, and walking up stairs throughout the facility to perform various cleaning and maintenance duties.* Perform repetitive hand and arm movements for extended periods of time while performing various tasks.* Constant standing up and sitting down as necessary to accomplish daily activities.* Reading handwritten information and writing legibly.* Strong voice, phone, and listening skills.* May be exposed to noise distractions from employees or equipment operation in adjacent work areas.* Ability to regularly lift, push, move, or carry 25 pounds or more in tools, equipment, and other supplies.* Bending, twisting, lunging, crouching, kneeling, and reaching while performing tasks in the field and/or obtaining items off the ground, shelves, etc.* Capacity to safely operate a motor vehicle to various sites to perform job duties, attend meetings, trainings, etc. and perform vehicle pre-check and observe rules of the road.* Must have adequate sight and hearing to properly interpret equipment function, readings, complete recordkeeping, and drive.* Ability to handle mental stress in order to work in a fast-paced environment, providing immediate district information, and responding to emergency situations.* Employee's general work area indoors is a smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent or other types of lighting.* Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes or airborne particles, grease, dirt, cleaning solvents, etc.* Regular outdoor work is required in various weather conditions including heat, humidity, wind, rain and cold, or indoors in a smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent, or other types of lighting.* Must park in designated employee sections, typically further from entrance to allow space for patrons.This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, and effects of working conditions associated with the job.
