BASIC FUNCTION: To provide leadership and oversight of the Van Meter Community School District Activities Program and its operations DISTRICT INFORMATION: Van Meter Community School District is a progressive growing district located 10 miles west of West Des Moines that is committed to developing a learning environment that is PERSONALIZED, INNOVATIVE, & GLOBAL. The district has been recognized as an Iowa Top Workplaces 2024 winner. With excellent proximity to the Des Moines Metro area, the Van Meter Community School District offers the best of a small town community with quick access to all that the Des Moines area has to offer. District enrollment is approximately 1100 students, with one building, PreK-12. This unique opportunity for all students and staff to be in one building allows for many extended collaboration and community-building activities and opportunities. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Organize, supervise and administer the district's school activities program according to board policies, administration regulations, and conference/state association rules.
  • Develop and maintain the district activities calendar.
  • Schedule all athletic and activity events; coordinate officials.
  • Arrange and schedule use of facilities for activities programming, as well as non-school use of fields and facilities.
  • Provide for the coordination of activities at home events including workers, supervisors, law enforcement, trainers, and all other supplementary activities.
  • Coordinate transportation needs of the activities program.
  • Administer the activities program budget including the maintenance and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Oversee student eligibility.
  • Provide leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of activity sponsors and coaches.
  • Foster good sportsmanship and school-community relationships.
  • Partner with and advise the booster club organizations and serve as liaison between the booster clubs and the activities program.
  • Plan and supervise activities recognition programs for students.
  • Represent the Van Meter Community School District at conference, district, state, and national meetings.
  • Attend school board meetings as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the superintendent or principals.

  • Provide conflict resolution and leadership in attaining a common goal.
  • Handle emergency situations.
  • Assume initiative in meeting activity responsibilities and obligations.
  • Utilize staff and delegate authority and responsibilities.
  • Develop positive relationships within the school and the activities community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.
  • A valid State of Iowa Teaching License.
  • Administrator certification preferred.
  • A valid State of Iowa Evaluator License (or willingness to obtain).
  • Successful completion of a criminal background investigation.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • 240 day contract
