Activities Aide
The primary purpose of this position is to provide recreational activities for residents by assisting in planning, conducting, evaluation and participating in one on one and group activity programs. The Activities Aide also ensures a safe environment for the residents at all times.
Job Responsibilities:
- Helps resident maintain their highest level of functioning by presenting appropriate activity programs according to resident's physical capacity, cognitive ability and interest.
- Motivate resident to take an interest in their life and community by investigating alternative methods of activities, resident hobbies, and community interest.
- Prepare Recreational therapy (dementia group) as assigned on a weekly basis.
- Delivers mail, flowers and other items to residents in timely manner and reads mail to residents upon request.
- Prepares for activity program by assuring all supplies are available and room is ready.
- Encourages residents to participate by announcing activity 30 minutes before start of activity.
- Assist in transporting residents to activity program.
- Conducts resident shopping as requested.
- Accompanies residents outside facility to participate in community events.
- Assist resident in craft projects and activity.
- Implements activity procedures Assist directed by the Activity Director by creating decorations, setting up necessary equipment, creating ceramics, needlework, woodwork, and other crafts, escorting residents to and from activity area and awarding prizes.
- Assist in making appointments for the resident as requested.
- Assist in scheduling movies, planning parties and providing games/activities for residents.
- Supervise activities as necessary.
- Maintains competency & is tested to be competent in: subject to change based on educational needs of staff.
- Safety and care of resident during transport.
- Safety and care of resident during activities.
- Proper chart documentation or resident participation and evaluation.
- Follows proper procedures during resident activity such as ceramics, crafts, needlework, games, etc.
- Performs other duties as required.
Education and Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited high school or GED preferred.
- Previous long-term care experience is desirable.
- Artistic background or previous instruction from a certified activity consultant.
