Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. Work under the supervision of the program director/senior/chief CLT in the Health Sciences Department; assists with the operational coordination of the Veterinary Technology Center (VTC). Dutiesinclude:

* Animal care, husbandry, and environmental enrichment.

* Assist with the organization and maintenance of the Vet Tech Center. Includes assisting/providing medical care, detailed and consistent record-keeping, set-up/break-down of teaching lab classes, health checks, and other related duties.

* Assist with the maintenance, trouble-shootingand use of equipment including radiological, surgical, anesthetic, environmental, and regulatory/safety equipment.

* Ensures compliance with all government (federal, state, local) and internal regulatory agencies, as they relate to the operation of the VTC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

* NYS licensed veterinary technician (LVT) and a graduate of an AVMA-accredited program in Veterinary Technologyis preferred, but not required

* Minimum of two years' experience working as a veterinary assistant or LVT in a veterinary hospital, shelter, or laboratory setting

* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; the ability to work as part of a team and cooperate with others for the good of the institution

* Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office

* Experience with organizational tasks, computerized record keeping, controlled drugs and inventory

* Flexible work hours required

* Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds

COMPENSATION

$31.22 - $45.11 per hour.
