Community Safety VolunteerEmployment Type: V - Volunteer Pay Range: $0.00 - 0.00Location: Castle Rock, COElected Office / Department: SHERIFFJob Number: req2181Closing Date: 7/1/2025GENERAL DUTIES:Community Safety Volunteers are citizen volunteers who have an interest in law enforcement and who wish to assist the Sheriff's Office in providing for the safety and security of their community. They partner with the Sheriff's Office and support the efforts of sworn and civilian personnel. They assist the Sheriff's Office in one or more of the following operational areas:
  • Patrol
  • Detentions
  • Investigations
  • Administrative Service
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - GENERAL:The following essential job functions are consistent among all CSVs:
  • Be fluent in the CSV program's purpose and mission
  • Serve as a role model for CSV Academy participants and CSV Program applicants
  • Participate in a minimum of one unit of instruction for the CSV Academy
  • Serve as eyes and ears for the Sheriff's Office
  • Participate in a minimum of one Community Relations event per year
  • Have the ability to handle and maintain the integrity of confidential information
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - PATROL TEAM:The following essential job functions are for CSVs on the Patrol Team:
  • Participate in CSV Patrol Team activities sufficient to maintain current team level or meet requirements for advancement to next level
  • Conduct patrols of neighborhoods, schools and roadways within Douglas
  • County in an effort to extend the eyes and ears of the Sheriff's Office
  • Be self-directed and seek opportunities to perform tasks for which one is authorized, trained and comfortable performing
  • Assist deputies with tasks that do not require commissioned personnel such as cold reports, impounds, and lost/found property
  • Perform tasks as directed by senior CSV Patrol Team members and commissioned personnel
  • Execute tasks and responsibilities in a manner that maximizes their safety and the safety of other members of the Sheriff's Office.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Generally a high school diploma or GED and some college, is required.Special Requirements:
  • Able to pass qualifying exams and background investigation.
  • Basic understanding of computer programs and keyboarding.
  • Good general physical and mental condition.
  • Attention to Detail.
  • Able to multi task
  • Able to deal with confidential materials and records.
  • Interview with Bureau Chief.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
