We encourage women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, veterans, and people with disabilities to apply.Position Title Adjunct Faculty, Public Relations and Strategic Communication Position Number 999972 Position Category Hofstra in LA School/Division School of Communication DepartmentFull-Time or Part-Time Part-Time Description The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication at Hofstra University invites applicants to apply for an adjunct faculty position in the Department of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations to teach courses within its new pilot Hofstra in L.A. program, located on the Emerson College campus in Hollywood, California.The Hofstra in L.A. semesterprovides students with access to on-site Hofstra University courses related to the entertainment industry, internships within their areas of interest, exclusive networking opportunities with alumni and other industry leaders, and planned social events and cultural activities throughout the semester. Students will broaden their understanding of career possibilities, develop skills needed to compete in a highly competitive industry, and establish valuable professional relationships.The position will be focused on public relations, particularly in the areas of the entertainment industry, with emphasis on promotion of media products including movies, television programs, radio music and theater. Attention to publicity campaigns tailored to specific or diverse audiences is essential.Qualifications
  • A master's degree in media and communications or a related field, or a minimum of 10 years professional experience.
  • Professional experience and a practical understanding of public relations, particularly in the entertainment industry, with emphasis on promotion of media products including movies, television programs, radio music and theater. Attention to publicity campaigns tailored to specific or diverse audiences is essential.
  • Flexibility to accommodate a teaching schedule.
  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.
  • Candidates must be available to begin teaching in the Spring 2025 semester.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English is a requirement.

Work for this position will be taught in English and performed onsite at the Emerson College Los Angeles Center.The pay scale for this position is $144.00 - $152.00 per classroom hour. The minimum range will be increased when California state sets the minimum rate for 2025. A classroom hour means the time spent in the primary forum of the course or laboratory, regardless of whether the forum is in-person or virtual. Payment for classroom hours encompasses payment for all classroom or laboratory time, preparation, grading, office hours, and other course- or laboratory-related work for that course or laboratory.Special Note: If you are selected for this role, your employment will be through Kelly Services.Deadline Open until filled.
