We are seeking adjunct faculty to teach a diverse range of courses across generalist and advanced generalist social work education. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of today's students, with the Master of Social Work (MSW) program offering hybrid, blended eight-week evening courses, and our Degree Completion/Adult Learners (DC) and Traditional Undergraduate (TUG) programs offering both evening and daytime classes.As an adjunct faculty member, you will inspire and mentor students, teaching practice-based and content-focused courses that align with your expertise. Participation in departmental faculty meetings and professional development sessions is a required aspect of this role, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and supporting program excellence. You'll also be part of a collaborative academic community dedicated to fostering student success and upholding the values of the program.New adjunct faculty typically begin by teaching in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program, with opportunities to transition into the MSW program based on departmental needs. Role:
- Teach courses as described and assigned in the undergraduate Bachelor of Social Welfare, Bachelor of Social Work, and Master of Social Work program
- Discuss class progress with the program director, including teaching performance through observation
- Collaborate with other faculty as needed
- Potential to supervise undergraduate and graduate students' field internships as assigned by program directors and/or field director(s)
- Academic and professional mentoring in the classroom; maintain office hours for student support
- Attendance at graduation ceremonies, university convocations and events, and other departmental events are encouraged
Qualifications Required:
- M.S.W. or Ph.D. in a related field of study; M.A. in a related field of study may be considered based on departmental needs
- Experience in working with client groups in the community at all system levels of social work practice (micro, mezzo, & macro)
- At minimum two years of post-graduate practice in the field or documented expertise in an area of study; based on departmental needs
- Ability to work with students, staff, and faculty in a collegial environment
- Commitment to the Christian faith and the University's mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church.
Preferred:
- Ph.D. in related discipline
Environmental Conditions:
- Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
- Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to three to four hours per day.
- Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
- Drive personal vehicles to field sites for appointments if assigned by the department.
- Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.
Physical Demands:
- This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.
