Job Description

Required: Associate degree with a CST (TS-C) or First Assist Certification, or Bachelor's Degree in any health-related field. Surgical Technology academic credentials must be from a nationally recognized and accredited credentialing agency. Maintaining a current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of New Mexico or CST (TS-C) is required. A minimum of two years clinical experience in medical surgical nursing or Operating Room experience as a scrub tech.

Position Summary:

Southeast New Mexico College is seeking applications for adjuncts in Surgical Technology. The accepted job candidates will teach courses in Surgical Technology. Adjunct faculty members are responsible for delivering curriculum, providing instruction, and performing student-learning assessments. The candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong clinical skills, reasoning, understanding of student clinical evaluation and outcomes, and a demonstrated commitment to the community college and surgical technology philosophy of education. In addition, the candidate must have an appreciation for and understanding of the unique needs of students in both academic and vocational disciplines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This position will have teaching responsibilities in the areas of Surgical Technology.
  • The position includes the teaching of theory of Surgical Technology, assisting with curriculum development.
  • Assume duties and responsibilities required of all faculty members including evening and weekend instruction as needed to meet student needs.
  • Plans, designs, and provides laboratory instruction which reflect an understanding of the program's objectives and curriculum. Evaluates student achievement of curricular and course objectives and learning outcomes related to Surgical Technology knowledge and practice.
  • Participates in advising and guidance of the students.
  • Holds office hours for the purpose of meeting with students to provide individual instruction, guidance, and remediation.
  • May assist in curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • May assist in the development, evaluation, and revision of student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the policies of the institution.
  • Contributes to the program, department, and college activities and initiatives including participating in program and department faculty meetings and serving on committees and participating in university functions.
  • May participate in faculty recruitment and interview activities.
  • Other duties as assigned in response to a rapidly changing environment, including but not limited to developing collaborative partnerships with clinical sites, expanding clinical sites, job placement, and certification exam preparation.
  • Under the general supervision of the Allied Health Department Chair or Surgical Tech Coordinator, the successful applicant will oversee, coordinate, and assess clinical rotations of Surgical Tech students.
