Administrative Aide - Safety and Training (Part-Time) Starting at $20.25 - 30.50/hour Salary negotiable (within range) - based on qualifications Opportunity to join a remarkable team The Department of Public Works provides services that guarantee the continued safe, clean, and healthy environment that is a way of life for City of Troy residents. The service areas which address this responsibility are Streets and Drains, Fleet Maintenance, Facilities & Grounds (Park Maintenance), Refuse and Recycling, Troy R.Y.D.E. and Water & Sewer. DUTIES
  • Maintain all safety and training records, filings and/or reports.
  • Create and maintain database for safety data sheets.
  • Work with supervisors and other leaders to understand and strategize safety and training needs.
  • Research training options, vendors, and opportunities.
  • Coordinate classes, venues, and attendees.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on compliance and regulations.
  • Explain rules, regulations, and procedures to employees as well as provide and collect required documents.
  • Compile and run reports for Department of Public Works and Human Resources Department.
  • Act as the injury liaison to Human Resources Department.
  • Assist in ensuring all safety equipment and personal protection items are stocked and in working order and compliant to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Maintain highest confidentiality standards when working with confidential information.
  • Perform data entry and/or audits of data.
  • Facilitate the Safety Committee meetings.
  • Involvement on various employee or other committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Two (2) years of college coursework in business administration, public administration or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of full-time administrative experience.
  • May consider applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Requires excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service, organizational and communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards). Out-of-state applicants must provide current driving record at time of application and obtain State of Michigan license within one month of appointment.
  • As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana).
PREFERENCES
  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience working in a municipality, other public employer or non-profit entity.
  • Experience with Safety and Training.
  • Experience creating and maintaining Safety Data Sheets.
  • Experience performing audits.
  • Experience facilitating meetings.
  • Experience working with leadership.
  • Experience with OSHA.
HOURS
  • Part-time, year-round.
  • Average of 22-28 hours per week; Monday - Friday.
