Title: Administrative Assistant Bluefield Center Agency: Southwest Virginia Community College Location: Tazewell - 185 FLSA: Nonexempt Hiring Range: $32,842 to $34,500 Full Time or Part Time: Full Time Additional Detail Job Description: Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice. Southwest Virginia Community College seeks a full-time Administrative Assistant for the Bluefield Center in Bluefield, Virginia. This position will provide administrative and clerical support to the Bluefield and will be responsible for working directly with students, faculty, and staff. This position is not a remote position; it is in-person. Job duties include:
- Prepare and assist in maintaining class and faculty schedules, adjunct contracts, various reports, coordinates special events,;
- Supervise assigned student workers as needed;
- Assist students interested or enrolled in non-credit Workforce training with career and educational planning services, program admissions, financial aid, and successful training/credential completion by working with students before, during, and after training has been completed;
- Coordinate with the Coordinator of Student Engagement and Inclusion to schedule and establish a presence at the Bluefield Center.
This position requires a one-year probationary period for both new hires and transfers. Minimum Qualifications:
- Possess exceptional organizational, follow up, and communication skills (oral and written)
- Interpersonal skills, ability to effectively communicate with students/staff, and the ability to build relationships;
- Strong record keeping skills the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to cross functionally collaborate with the college, workforce partners, and employees.
- Must maintain confidentiality, respond to internal and external communications, and work with a diverse group of students;
- Must also have exceptional listening, helping, and effective problem solving skills;
- Experience with Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Power Point, Excel, and Access;
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions and have previous experience with office management/clerical experience.
- Previous work experience in a similar role
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience coaching students and offering career advice.
- Previous experience with financial aid programs.
- Community college experience.
