Position Summary

This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor.

This position works under the direction of the supervisor to perform a variety of higher-level clerical duties to directly support the Manager, Supervisors, and Nurses of the Community Health and Navigation in Tennessee Program of Shelby County including medical billing, data entry, scheduling, analyzing, processing, and maintaining policy level financial, statistical, and data control while exercising initiative and independent judgment.

Pay Grade: 43

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

1. Four (4) years of experience in appropriate clerical, bookkeeping, data processing, or statistical work; AND

2. High school diploma or possess a GED; OR

3. Three (3) years of experience in appropriate clerical, bookkeeping, data processing, or statistical work; AND

4. One (1) year of college study (30 semester hours or 36 quarters).

5. Medical billing experience is preferred.

6. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Processes claims for medical billing purposes.

2. Controls basic accounting functions such as checking invoices, managing petty cash, submitting check requests and requisitions, etc.

3. Purchases program materials and records inventory.

4. Performs data entry, composes letters, memoranda, and reports for review and signature.

5. Communicates with customers by answering questions, passing along relevant information and/or addressing concerns.

6. Receives, reviews, and processes records, reports, and other various documents as required for accuracy and/or conformance with established policies and procedures.

7. Mails or personally delivers authorized documents or materials as required.

8. Obtains data from various sources to prepare and compile standard reports.

9. Relieves or assists other clerical employees in the assigned work areas.

10. Collaborates with internal and external colleagues on a frequent basis.

11. Maintains and organizes program filing system in an organized fashion electronically and/or hard copy as appropriate.

12. Maintains adequate office supplies and equipment. Responsible for inspection of all office equipment to ensure equipment is in proper work order and responsible for ensuring that an accurate supply inventory log is maintained.

13. Responsible for carrying out mandatory assigned tasks related to public health emergency preparedness and response, training, and periodic disaster drills.

14. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

KSAs

1. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment; skilled in operating office equipment.

2. Knowledge of Business English and Math.

3. Knowledge of modern office practices and skills in operating selected office machines, data processing auxiliary equipment, and computer systems.

4. Knowledge of medical terminology.

5. Ability to plan, organize, and maintain an even flow of work.

6. Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, verbally and in writing.

7. Ability to resolve problematic situations.

8. Ability to communicate with sensitivity to cultural and social differences.

9. Ability to perform accurate arithmetical computations as well as correct grammar usage.

10. Ability to be self-directed and reliable with minimal direct oversight and attention to detail.

11. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and other County software applications.

Special Requirements

1. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver license or secure one upon the date of employment.

2. Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon the date of employment.

3. Work will require travel to locations outside of the office.

4. Must be able to type 25 words per minute.
