Cornell Engineering is the second largest undergraduate college at Cornell and consists of approximately 3,200 undergraduates, 1,900 graduate students, 270 faculty and 14 majors. The College receives almost 20,000 undergraduate applications per year.

The Opportunity

The Admissions Office Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the Engineering Admissions Office by ensuring a high level of customer service for prospective students, families, and school counselors. The ideal candidate will bring professionalism, collaboration, and organizational efficiency to the office's daily operations. This role is responsible for managing communication channels, providing admissions counseling, organizing events, and coordinating the review process for first-year and transfer applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective students, families, and counselors, providing accurate and timely responses via mail, email, phone, and web inquiries.
  • Counsel and advise on all aspects of the admissions process, staying informed on the College of Engineering's curriculum, student services, internships, research opportunities, leadership programs, and other essential information.
  • Manage office email inboxes, phone-assignment schedules, and ensure effective organization of communication workflows.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Admissions Communication lead to create digital and print content that supports recruitment and admissions efforts.
  • Lead the planning and execution of admissions events, including in-person and virtual information sessions, and admitted student events such as on-campus Cornell Days.
  • Support the Director and admissions team in the review and evaluation of first-year and transfer applications.
  • Monitor application statuses, providing regular updates to applicants, parents, school counselors, and processing staff.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY. This position follows a 2:3 campus-to-home hybrid work arrangement with the in-office days being Wednesdays and Fridays. This hybrid work arrangement is subject to change at any time. Typical work hours are 8:30am-5pm Monday through Friday.

What You Need

We are looking for a team member who is a self-starter, adept at project management, and successful working independently. Additionally, you will:

  • Hold an Associate's Degree and 4-6 years of experience in higher education.
  • Have experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of experience in higher education.
  • Previous experience with travel arrangements and reimbursements
  • Prior experience using SLATE

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role remotely 3 days per week and on-campus 2 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.
  • This position is based in Ithaca, New York. Employees who work remotely may receive multiple W-2 Forms depending on their work location. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholding for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside of New York State.
