Work Shifts 9:00 A.M - 5:00 P.M Job Description Purpose: Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Patient Movement, maintain all operational and administrative aspects of the admitting department to ensure effective and efficient operations. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: The Admissions Officer is charged with and responsible for: •Oversee and manage the daily operations of the Admitting department. •Develop and formulate processes and procedures within the department to ensure efficient operations. •Responsible for the performance of all admissions functions including liaison between the Admitting Office and the Inpatient/ED units; liaison with the hospital support staffing including medical records, housekeeping, case management, nursing, infectious disease, and other relevant staff relating to admissions, bed availability, and utilization. •Responsible for Census control involving the compiling and maintenance of accurate patient census, bed availability, and collection of all related statistics. •Monitor and ensure bed assignments are occurring efficiently and effectively. •Interdisciplinary collaboration with hospital staff to ensure census control and bed management. •Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance the Admitting department's efficiency and productivity. •Create and update policies under the supervision of the Admitting Director. •Ensure proper staffing coverage for the Admitting department during all tours. •Responsible for staff scheduling including time off requests and enforcing policies related to time and attendance, including addressing tardiness, absenteeism. •Assist in Recruitment, training, and onboarding new Admitting staff members. •Create training for onboarding and continuing education for staff members and oversee annual and ad hoc appraisal of training. •Conduct coaching and counseling sessions with staff members to address performance issues, behavioral concerns, or policy violations. •Conduct performance evaluations for direct reports within the Admitting department. •Ensure department staff meet all HR compliance standards/requirements. •Responsible for wearing professional attire to the workplace. •Promote patient safety goals as it relates to patient movement and patient identification. •Promote a positive and pleasant attitude conducive to the workplace, which furthers the mission, vision, and value statement. •Participate in performance improvement activities and attend required meetings. •Supervises collection of data on the condition and status of patients. •Responsible for resolving coding/billing issues within the work queue to ensure accurate and timely processing. •Maintain accurate records and documentation related to departmental operations and staff management. Minimum Qualifications 1. A Baccalaureate Degree issued upon the completion of a four-year course in Business Administration or related discipline from an accredited college and one year of full-time experience in a progressively responsible supervisory or administrative position, performing admissions duties, in a hospital or similar institution with one-hundred-and-fifty or more beds; or, 2. High school Diploma or evidence of having passed an examination for a High School Equivalency Diploma plus five years of full-time experience as described in (1) above; or, 3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
