Job DetailsJob LocationAzalea - Mobile, ALPosition TypePart TimeEducation Level4 Year DegreeSalary Range$18.00 - $18.00 HourlyJob ShiftDayJob CategoryEducationDescriptionMission Contribution:Expands the mission of the agency by recruiting, training and supporting volunteer tutors for Goodwill adult education programs and provides low level literacy instruction for students.Function:Coordinates literacy volunteer tutoring program and provides instructional classes to beginning level student groups. Essential Functions:
Provides world class customer service including effective communication with internal and external customers.Markets Goodwill educational services and programs to faith-based groups, civic organizations, businesses and other stakeholder groups in an effort to recruit potential volunteers and build awareness of volunteer opportunities within the department.Performs initial assessments to obtain student's current reading level, and post-tests at appropriate intervals, in alignment with Alabama Adult Education State Assessment Policy.Coordinates, plans and implements literacy volunteer training for individualized instruction.Leads instruction of REACH Literacy class and Adult Basic Education class with coordinated support of volunteers. Plans and implements on-going training activities and meetings for volunteers to learn and share effective teaching strategies and best practices for low level literacy instruction.Reports test scores to be entered onto the state database (AAESAP) in a timely manner, in accordance with the Alabama Adult Education Assessment Policy. Provides volunteers with appropriate tutoring materials initially, and continues to ensure that new materials, training and information is provided as the students advance and/or their instructional needs change.Inputs student and tutor information into Goodwill database for accurate program reporting.Obtains monthly contact hours and program notes from volunteers.Obtains data for accurate measurement of outcome results.Initiates and assists volunteers in obtaining progress assessments of students.Maintains and develops appropriate student files, departmental records, and required reports in compliance with Goodwill and ACCS standards and guidelines.Develops volunteer reward and recognition program in conjunction with Goodwill Volunteer Coordinator and other agency staff.Stays current on education, employment and special population issues and best practices by participating in on-going training and professional development opportunities including seminars, conferences, in-house training and through personal research.Makes referrals to appropriate programs within Goodwill and to programs in the communities.Ensures confidentiality of participant records and private information, keeping in compliance with organization's guidelines, policies and CARF regulationsStays informed of community, agency, and program information through inter-office communications, and attendance at staff meetings. Acts as a positive role model for employees, participants, students, and trainees in all aspects of professional performance.Observes all safety procedures and personnel policies and ensures compliance by employees and students.Regular attendance, as outlined in Goodwill's policy, is required.Other duties as assigned.Skills, knowledge and abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job).
Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people. Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public.Ability to use general office equipment including computer keyboard by touch.Must possess excellent organizational and time management skills.Must be able to keep information confidential.Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among employees, volunteers and students.Must be able to take initiative and make decisions with little supervision.Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.Ability to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.Must be dependable and reliable, following class schedule with few or no schedule adjustments.Must have access to reliable transportation in order to work at various work locations,.Must obtain and retain First Aid/CPR/AED certification and respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency at the worksite according to Goodwill Safety Policies & Procedures.Must have a reliable means of transportation, must have a valid driver's license for at least 3 years, liability automobile insurance and be insurable through the agency's insurance carrier.Must be at least 21 years of age.Experience and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in education or content-related field
- Minimum 2 years teaching, supervisory, and training experience required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required.
- Experience working with people with barriers to obtaining and maintaining employment a plus.
- Proficiency in English, grammar and spelling required
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to use hands, fingers and wrists, repetitively while using computer keyboard.
Working Conditions/Hazards:Adequately lighted and ventilated building. Regular travel between program locations including some disadvantaged areas of our territory and occasional travel throughout the state including some overnight trips.Critical Performance Factors:
