Registered Nurse - Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit- RN - 6N - Day Flex & Night Flex Psychiatry at New York-Presbyterian defies convention. We are seeking a clinically proficient Registered Nurse (RN) for the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit who adds value to a dynamic team of healthcare professionals. This position requires an individual who is adept at de-escalating high-risk situations, providing trauma-informed care, and working effectively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety and well-being of patients and staff. As an RN in this unit, you will play a critical role in delivering therapeutic interventions, administering medications, and providing constant monitoring of patients who exhibit significant behavioral disturbances. The RN will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based interventions, promote recovery, and manage psychiatric crises. Experience: - Minimum of 1-2 years of psychiatric nursing experience, preferably in a psychiatric or behavioral health setting.
- Experience working in an acute psychiatric or inpatient setting is preferred.
- Experience in crisis management, de-escalation techniques, and managing psychiatric emergencies.
Skills & Abilities: - Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills to assess and address complex psychiatric and medical conditions.
- Ability to work effectively with patients in crisis and manage challenging behaviors with professionalism and empathy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families.
- Knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, treatment modalities, and therapeutic techniques.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining a focus on patient safety and quality care.
Crisis Management: - Respond to psychiatric emergencies, including self-harm behaviors, aggression, or suicidal ideation.
- Utilize de-escalation techniques and provide support to patients during moments of heightened distress.
- Ensure that all safety protocols are followed to minimize risks to patients and staff, including managing restraints and seclusion as necessary.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to lift and assist patients as needed, with the use of appropriate safety techniques and equipment.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Safety and Quality Improvement: - Contribute to the development and implementation of unit safety protocols and best practices to enhance patient care and reduce risk.
Preferred Criteria - Certification in Psychiatric Nursing
- At least 2 years acute in-patient psychiatric experience
- At least 1 year of Med/Surg Experience
Required Criteria - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Current New York State RN license (or willingness to obtain)
- BCLS certification
