Description

The main purpose of the Adventure Programs Director is to serve as the point person on all trips and aid in the planning and execution of both field trips and adventure trips.

The Adventure Programs Director will meet as needed with the Summer Camp Director to discuss progress and ongoing planning before the start of camp. Full-time work will run from the week camp begins in June through the week camp ends to bring closure to the summer. The Adventure Programs Director reports to the Camp Director. Their presence will be necessary at both campuses, Hoboken and Jersey City, with a day-to-day schedule forthcoming.

Primary roles include:

Trips Planning
  • Communicates with venues to ensure all information is up-to-date and accurate, including communications in preparation for the start of summer camp.
  • Develops detailed itineraries for trips including times, locations, and contact information for camp teachers attending field trips.
  • Helps to plan backup trips in case of cancellations due to weather or other unexpected circumstances.
  • Obtains necessary permissions from parents/guardians for specific trips.
Trip Administrator
  • Communicates with bus depot on arrival and departure of buses.
  • Obtains the bus drivers' phone numbers to stay in contact with.
  • Attends four of five trips weekly, with one day of on-site office work:
    • Mondays: Adventure Trip
    • Tuesdays: 3rd Grade and older Field Trip
    • Wednesdays: 2nd Grade Field Trip
    • Thursdays: 1st Grade Field Trip
    • Fridays: Adventure Trip
    • On-site administrative work.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of campers and teachers.
  • Manages the logistics and schedule of the day's activities.
  • Addresses any issues or emergencies that arise during the field trip, including first aid, trip venue staff, family and camp administration communication, and emergency services, as needed.
Adventure Camp Teacher Supervisor
  • Serves as the supervisor to Adventure teachers (culinary, biking, aquatics, sailing, paddling, urban and wilderness).
  • Contributes ideas on how the theme could be incorporated into each of their subject areas.
  • Maintains contact with all Adventure Camp teachers throughout the week to support as needed when not on a trip with them.
  • Meets with Adventure Camp teachers and provides feedback and input regarding their self-evaluations.
  • Meets with Adventure Camp teachers to receive feedback on program quality and trip planning.
Other General Camp Responsibilities
  • Attends and leads portions of Summer Camp Staff Orientation and Family Orientation.
  • Sets up buildings for camp with the Site and Program Directors, Camp Director, and Auxiliary Programs Director.
  • Promotes camp spirit – able to lead whole camp events like morning meetings and camp cheers.
  • Assists in the breakdown of camp with Site and Program Directors, Summer Camp Director, and Auxiliary Programs Directors.
  • Other responsibilities assigned by the Summer Camp Director, as needed.

  • Has experience and proficiency using Google Workspace and a willingness to learn the camp platform, UltraCamp.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a willingness to work long camp hours at times.
  • Experience with safety and crisis management.
  • Is committed to being a creative self-starter who brings wisdom, perspective, confidence, and excellent problem-solving skills to the position.
  • Demonstrates excellent command of a large group of people, children and adults alike, and comfortability and confidence speaking in front of them.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills; speaks professionally and thoughtfully to camp families at all times.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work collaboratively bringing a positive attitude and sense of humor even during stressful situations.
  • Ensures that program participants have a safe and positive camp experience.
  • Assists in managing crises and unanticipated events that affect the camp.
  • Maintains ongoing evaluation process of camp programs, staff, site, and facilities. Make recommendations for improvements.
  • Assures that the camp philosophy and practices align with our mission and school year values.
  • Is CPR/ First Aid Certified or completes training before summer camp begins.

The Adventure Programs Director is a single summer position, with the option thereafter to renew on a year-by-year basis. The role and responsibilities are also likely to evolve. The individual who assumes this role should have completed a minimum of 3 years in a lead teaching position and have at least 5 total years of teaching experience. They should have a desire for educational leadership.
