DescriptionCal Poly Pomona Enterprises Employment ServicesANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCYSUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Director, this position facilitates the retention and graduation of low-income, first generation college students, and students with disabilities.SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
  • Provide intensive and intrusive academic, financial, career, and personal advising.
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 125 students annually.
  • Meet with assigned participant within two weeks of admittance to the program to review reading assessment results, academic progress, campus resources, and orientation to the program (program policies, contract, and syllabus). Thereafter, meet with assigned participants at least once per term.
  • Complete advisor meeting summary reports for each advising session.
  • Follow-up with participants regarding tasks identified during advisor meeting such as resource referrals, letters of recommendation, graduate school application, feedback on written work, appeals, and academic and other concerns.
  • Document all student contacts and tracks their progress towards completing program activities and requirements.
  • Assist participants with completing the FAFSA and address other financial aid concerns including submitting appeals.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus agencies such as Student Health & Counseling and Psychological Services, Learning Resource Center, Disability Resource Center, Office of Undergraduate Research, McNair, and Ombuds.
  • Coordinate various program events including Professional Spotlight, First-Generation College Student panels, Financial Literacy/Aid and Academic Success workshops, Community Connection events, TRIO Day, and Graduate Recognition Luncheon/Ceremony. Coordinating entails planning, preparing the agenda, arranging for guest speakers, inviting students, promoting the event, and set-up on day of the event.
  • Coordinate and administer cultural exposure component including maintaining documentation of student attendance, participation, and reflection.
  • Coordinate the RAMP newsletter each semester.
  • Interpret and implement TRIO legislation and regulations as they apply to Student Support Service projects.
  • Revise and develop new program procedures to best meet program regulations, grant funded objectives, and participants' needs.
  • Recruit, identify, and select participants by reviewing participant application and all substantiating documents (including university records) while adhering to TRIO regulations.
  • Develop and revise program documents such as the Program Manual and Participant Contract and Grant Aid application annually or as needed.
  • Initiate and develop new components to the program.
  • Serves as a liaison between RAMP and other campus support offices and agencies such as Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, Student Support & Equity Programs, ARCHES (TRIO SSS), Learning Resource Center, PolyTransfer, Early Start, Student Health & Counseling and Psychological Services, and Pre-College TRIO Programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Professional level of knowledge is needed equivalent to that which would be acquired by completing a 4-year college program (BA Degree) in Education, Counseling, Social Work or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum three years experience as Student Support Professional
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience with low-income, first-generation and/or individuals with disabilities preferred
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
