Join DAWN's Team as a Shelter Advocate! Shelter - Kent, Washington Are you passionate about supporting survivors of domestic violence? DAWN is seeking a dedicated Shelter Advocate to join our close-knit, trauma-informed team in South King County. As a Shelter Advocate, you'll provide compassionate, empowerment-based advocacy to survivors and their families, helping them navigate crisis intervention, safety planning, and resource referrals. You'll be part of a team committed to social justice, equity, and lasting change in our community. Location: South King County, WA Shift: 4/10s swing shift Who We're Looking For: Heart for Advocacy: You're committed to ending domestic violence and supporting survivors in the choices they make. Respectful of Boundaries: You follow confidentiality protocols strictly and empower survivors to make decisions without judgment. What You'll Do: Client Advocacy Be a supportive presence for survivors, engaging in safety planning and goal-setting. Accompany survivors to appointments and help them access resources in the areas of housing, legal aid, and healthcare. Answer calls on our 24-hour Advocacy and Support Hotline, offering active listening and vital referrals. Community Outreach & Partnerships Act as a liaison with local service providers to connect survivors with necessary resources. Represent DAWN in outreach presentations to increase community awareness. Operations & Support Assist with keeping the shelter clean, organized, and welcoming, including preparing rooms for new families and managing supplies. Work with the team on essential tasks, such as donor pickups and maintaining the shelter's environment. Administrative Responsibilities Maintain up-to-date client records and data with accuracy. Join team meetings and participate in trainings to enhance your advocacy skills. Skills & Abilities Strong communication skills, a calm demeanor, and the ability to manage crises effectively. Commitment to DAWN's mission and readiness to learn and grow. Physical ability to move, lift (up to 60 pounds), and perform cleaning duties as needed. Qualifications: Prior advocacy experience and background in domestic violence or trauma-informed care preferred. Comfortable with Microsoft Office; experience in Osnium or Infonet is a bonus. Must pass a Washington State background check, hold a valid WA driver's license, and have reliable transportation.
