Brooklyn Heights Montessori School (BHMS) is currently seeking to fill two part-time positions for the following roles for academic year '24-'25. Please specify which position you prefer in your cover letter:
- Afterschool Teacher (15hrs/wk)
- Afterschool Teacher & Classroom Support/Substitute (up to 27hrs/wk)
The Afterschool Teacher will work specifically for the MAP program, aka Montessori Afternoon Plus. Hours are 2:45pm to 6pm, Monday through Friday. They will monitor and care for students between preschool and grade 6. They will prepare materials and activities that are interesting and age-appropriate; provide tutoring for homework; mediate any conflicts between students; report any concerns to the Coordinator; and provide a safe and fun environment for the children. Maximum hours per week is 15 hours and the compensation is $23/h.The Afterschool Teacher & Classroom Support will cover the afterschool program as well as occasional substitute/floater hours. Substitute/floater hours are not guaranteed and could change from day to day. Maximum hours per week is 27 hours per week and the compensation is $23/h. If classroom support demands are high, your MAP hours may be limited to 2:45-5:45 so as not to go over the 27 hour limit.Requirements:
- Extensive experience (3+ years) working with groups of children in a professional setting
- Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required
- Knowledge or training in Montessori is a major plus!
- Strong work ethic and clear communication
