A founding member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Madison currently serves more than 5,000 youth, ages 6 to 18, at five sites throughout Brooklyn, Bronx, and Harlem. We are offering an exciting opportunity for an Prevention Specialist at our following clubhouse:
  • Navy Yard Clubhouse - New York, NY
This is a full-time position working 35 hours a week Monday through Friday in the afternoon and evening.The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, conducting, evaluating, and facilitating departmental programs, activities and events under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director and providing individual guidance and referrals as needed.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, implement, and facilitate workshops utilizing prescribed evidence-based programs to empower youth to avoid tobacco, alcohol and drugs, proper decision making and the importance of life-long healthy decision-making and behaviors.
  • Work effectively to prepare members to be leaders, upstanding citizens and community role models.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with agencies and community-based programs in order to make the proper referrals for the intervention of drug and developmental problems of members.
  • Guide program participants individually and in group settings to achieve personal adjustments in regards to social, school or family situations.
  • Initiate and maintain community contacts with families, schools and other organizations and institutions to enhance programs and services.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
  • Bachelor's Degree from state-accredited university/college and a minimum of 2 years in a related field required.
  • CASAC or CASAC-T strongly preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, ages 6-18 as well as a range of other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to empower youth with effective programming and leadership training in small group settings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Proven track record of engaging youth in a responsible and mature manner.
