AGRICULTURIST 2 - State of Nevada : Job Details

The Position

Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), Division of Plant Heath and Compliance is seeking to fill a vacant Agriculturist 2 position in the Sparks office. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for conducting a variety of inspections with an emphasis on nursery stock, hemp, and export certification. Incumbent may be required to secure USDA grading licensure. Duties will include collecting plant, insect, and fertilizer samples; licensing; inspection and enforcement action; and certification duties involving field inspections for USDA phytosanitary certification and grading. Additional duties will include maintaining program data base and office records; ensures compliance to USDA regulations and standards; and works with local, state and federal government representatives, community organizations, business owners and the general public. This position may be required to work occasional nights and weekends. The position will supervise 1-2 personnel primarily working under the export and shipping point inspection programs.
