Position Title: Agritourism Intern
Reports To:
Director of Museum & Tour Operations & Enrichment Program Manager
Position summary:
Internships are open to all majors. Students will gain valuable experience in many aspects of Fair Oaks Farms including, but not limited to: learning dairy production, pig production, public speaking, and interaction with tourists- Engage the tourists joyfully and genuinely while learning to communicate with & educate the public on the importance of farming and agriculture.
Assist with planning & developing educational programs such as STEM field trips, workshops, and camps to various customer segments ranging from educational institutions to families that supplement the guest experience at Fair Oaks Farms.
Genuinely appreciate the animals and the people who find it their calling to take care of them, present a positive impression of the Fair Oaks Farms experience while networking with farmers, agritourism managers, and professionals in the farm and agritourism industry.
Expect to work 40 hours per week with weekend rotations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Professionally, politely, and positively communicate to guests and co-workers while providing extraordinary service to staff, peers, and visitors ensuring positive example to staff members.
* Work in a fast-paced environment paying attention to each guest and remembering which attractions they experienced and which ones they have yet to experience.
* Obtain and share accurate farm knowledge with guests and co-workers.
* Stay in constant communication with other departments informing them of guests' planned activities and their desires.
* Command attention and take the lead with group leaders and teachers.
* Follow written and verbal instructions from company operating procedures and/or management.
* Stay organized in manner, with materials, and company property.
* Explain and start exhibits as needed, ensure exhibits are clean and working & report to management in the instance an exhibit is having an issue.
* Complete daily operational checklist & cleaning checklist in area of responsibility.
* Communicate departmental improvement ideas to management.
Intern Project Involvement
* Assist with creation, implementation, and maintenance of tour programming and educational workshops according to company vision, mission, and values.
* Collaborates with departmental peers relating to planning and operating educational programming.
* Works on or visits pig and dairy farm to maintain working knowledge of the farms in order to communicate effectively.
* Collaborates with training team to ensure the adventure staff is up to date on content and operational programming.
* Maintains a friendly, cheerful, professional, and courteous demeanor at all times and work effectively and positively with all members of the FOF team.
* Find projects to work on during idle times
