This announcement is listed as a range of Airport Maintenance tiers to allow for a broad applicant pool.Airport Maintenance Worker - responsible for performing skilled work in the maintenance and repair of airport buildings, facilities, equipment and grounds, ensuring the safety of airport personnel, contract workers and the general public. Airport Maintenance Technician I - responsible for performing skilled work and serve as lead worker in the inspection, troubleshooting, servicing, adjusting, repair, and replacing of equipment and systems in Airport buildings and airfield, equipment and grounds, ensuring the safety of airport personnel, contract workers and the general public. Tuition reimbursement is also available for eligible employees.This position is open until filled and may close at any time. Essential Job Functions Airport Maintenance Worker:
- Maintains a variety of airfield equipment: Inspects, troubleshoots and repairs airfield lighting; maintains diesel generator at air traffic control tower including changing oil and maintaining proper battery charge; inspects, maintains and repairs gates at airport including electric and manual gate openers; and repairs replaces chains, casters, rollers, and tires.
- Performs HVAC maintenance and repairs on commercial and residential units.
- Performs building maintenance: Conducts electrical repairs, plumbing repairs, painting, and lock-smithing; changes light bulbs and replaces ballasts; and performs roof repairs on rubber, standing seam and metal roofs.
- Maintains airport grounds: Mows airport owned properties, runways, and taxiways; plants, trims, edges and weeds beds; trims trees in aircraft approach lanes and roadways; and performs pesticide and herbicide control on airport owned buildings and properties including terminal building, control tower, hangars, fence lines, ditches, trees, and turf.
- Performs maintenance on grounds keeping equipment.
- Performs routine maintenance and repair on airport owned hangars.
- Receives, reviews, prepares, processes various records and reports such as work orders, logs, repair manuals, and verbal requests, etc.
- Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment such as tractors, holder, snow broom, snowplow, snow blower, computer, etc.
- Uses a variety of tools such as multi-meter, clinometers, socket set, drill, impact driver, etc.; a variety of supplies such as lamps, contactors, hangar cables, ballast, lights, general office supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Access, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, etc.
- Performs other duties as required.
Airport Maintenance Technician I:
- Performs all duties of airport maintenance worker.
- Performs assigned inspections and repairs of airport runways, taxiways, and electrical systems for hazardous conditions and compliance with FAA regulations.
- Serves as primary operator for the skid steer and loader, and any borrowed equipment such as rubber tire loader, mini excavator and backhoe.
- Serves as Supervisor in the absence of the Airport Maintenance Supervisor and meets with contractors in absence of supervisor; assists in training, guiding, and mentoring staff.
- Serves as lead maintenance representative during shift for snow removal operations.
- Performs other duties as required
Minimum Required Qualifications Airport Maintenance Worker
- High School diploma or GED
- Two years' experience in operations or maintenance work
Airport Maintenance Technician I
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Four years' experience in airfield maintenance work

Special Requirements Airport Maintenance WorkerMust obtain/possess a valid Virginia Class B Commercial Driver's License.Airport Maintenance Technician IUniversal Refrigerant license, Certified Pesticide applicators license and completion of the AAAE ACE course for Airfield electrical is required.
