Work is performed under the general direction of the Airport Operations Manager, or the Airport Deputy Director, in their absence. Continuous supervision is exercised over all personnel within the team. Position Responsibilities
- Assists the Airport Operations Manager with supervision of division personnel in providing fire and emergency medical services for the County airport and ensures compliance of all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 139 regulations and requirements, applicable NFPA requirements and local OSHA requirements.
- Prepares and oversees all training and required documentation to comply with the federally mandated Airport Certification Manual and meet all applicable federal, state, and local laws required to operate a commercial facility.
- Under the supervision of the Airport Operations Manager, works collaboratively with the Airport Maintenance Supervisor to find appropriate solutions to operate and maintain all airport facilities, equipment, and grounds both airside and landside.
- Monitors and controls supply and equipment; orders supplies and tools as necessary; prepares documents for equipment procurement; assists in preparing contracts for contract services; requisitions and order materials and supplies.
- Assists in the management of the Airport Certification Manual and its components, including the Airport Emergency Plan, Snow and Ice Control Plan, and the Wildlife Hazard Mitigation Plan, in accordance with FAA regulations. Assists in the implementation of the Storm water Pollution Prevention Plan and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures Plan, including required inspections and identifying areas requiring revisions.
- Evaluates staff performance; makes recommendations regarding personnel action and implements disciplinary actions; provides counsel and leadership of staff regarding performance and employee personnel policies.
- Performs services and activities supporting airport operations to include maintenance and emergency services in observance of FAA and TSA related regulations.
- Performs maintenance work on the grounds, runways, parking lots, and buildings; performs perimeter checks, runway inspections, and repairs of runway lights; performs maintenance on various equipment associated with grounds maintenance.
- Manage aircraft rescue and firefighting operations for the airport.
- Responds to emergency calls at the County airport. Serves as Incident Commander during airfield emergencies until relieved.
- Prepares and develops plans for emergency situations; coordinates and/or conducts emergency response training programs for crash crew maintenance personnel at basic and advanced levels including firefighting, emergency rescue and hazardous material response.
- Inspects airport facilities to determine fire hazards and fire protection in compliance with FAA and airport policy; performs periodic inspections of all fire equipment and apparatus on the assigned shift and prepares written inspection reports for administration review. Works with the Airport Operations Manager to ensure that tenants and users are complying with the Airport Rules and Regulations and Minimum Standards for Aeronautical Activities.
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member.

QualificationsThorough knowledge of the principles of emergency response and incident command; thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care; thorough knowledge of equipment and supplies employed in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents; thorough knowledge of firefighting methods and techniques used in a variety of fire situations; knowledge of FAA regulations, airport ordinances and policies, preferred; knowledge of aircraft structure and operation; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision; thorough knowledge of the airport's physical layout; knowledge of relevant airport maintenance principles; skilled in the use and care of equipment used in fire and rescue operations; knowledge of the practices, equipment, tools, and materials used in airport maintenance and construction; general knowledge of building and equipment repair and maintenance; ability to plan, schedule, supervise, assign work, monitor, and evaluate the work of employees; ability to use sound judgment under stress and in emergency situations; ability to maintain and compile records and reports; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, staff, other emergency agencies and the general public; ability to work under adverse conditions for prolonged periods of time; and ability to use a computer and other various office equipment. Education, Experience, and Special RequirementsAssociates/Technical degree with coursework in fire science technology or related field, or equivalent combination of considerable experience and education. Considerable experience aircraft firefighting and rescue work techniques and procedures, or equivalent combination of education and experience.•Firefighting Certifications.
