Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps Mission
It is the mission of the Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps to lead our Nations back to cultural and ecological well-being. The Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps is specifically designed to engage Native American youth and young adults with offices in Acoma Pueblo, Albuquerque (Tiwa Territory), Gallup (Navajo Nation), Zuni Pueblo, and Hopi Nation. Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps serves local tribal communities in the regions we operate.

ALCC Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Natural Resource Restoration IP Overview:
The mission of the Natural Resources department of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is to preserve, protect, and enhance flora and fauna and their habitats.
This is done thorough habitat restoration that incorporates removing non-native invasive plant species and re-establishing the native plant community through spreading native plant seeds and planting native plant species that are propagated at the parks greenhouse.
The IPs will have firsthand opportunities to get involved with preserving the parks collection, greenhouse plant propagation, invasive plant control, planting, vegetation monitoring, etc.), while position shadowing and working alongside, NPS Biologists, Biological Science Technicians, Interpreters, and Resource Educators.
Required Skills
1) Native Plant Restoration:
Assist with native seed collection,
greenhouse plant propagation,
watering and weeding restoration sites.
Trainings: Plant identification, proper tool use
2) Invasive Plant Treatment
Assist with surveying and mapping.
removing/treating non-native invasive plants with herbicide and tools
Trainings: Plant identification, herbicide safety, how to use Field Maps software
3) Wildlife Survey
Overnight backpacking into a remote canyon,
surveying for the Western Yellow Billed Cuckoo,
practicing Leave No Trace principles.
Trainings: How to prepare for a backpacking trip, Leave No Trace principles, surveying protocol for the Western Yellow Billed Cuckoo
Required Experience
Required Skills and Qualifications:
+ Completed High School or Equivalent
+ Interest in learning about NPS resource management
+ Able to use effectively and safely use hand tools, hand power tools, and to safely operate motor vehicles.
+ Able to complete duties that include bending, lifting, climbing, reaching, standing for extended periods of time, loading and unloading material. lifting/carrying heavy loads (up to 50lbs).
+ Ability to work safely and productively in outdoor work settings, including under adverse conditions. This will include working outside in high temperatures an inclement weather.
+ hiking in uneven terrain, hiking off trail/unmarked paths, in slippery/wet conditions.,

+ Must be reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
+ Strong Verbal and Communication Skills
+ Active team member, works well with others despite personality differences.
+ Self starter, creative, strategic and resourceful
+ Must be comfortable and proficient speaking to large groups of people, including children
+ Some college or higher-level education classes associated with biology, botany, natural resources, cultural resources, or a similar field.
